1. Molecular and phenotypical toxicological effects of environmental pollutants and their mixtures : A mechanistic approach
Abstract : Current environmental risk assessment of polluted sites primarily relies on single compound evaluation. However, in the environment, organisms are often exposed to complex mixtures of pollutants. READ MORE

2. Cannabinoids as neuroprotective agents : a mechanistic study
Abstract : Glucose and oxygen supply to the brain is critical for its proper function and when it is restricted as during a stroke, neurons and glial cells quickly become necrotic leading to structural damage as well as functional impairment and even death. To date there are few effective therapies that inhibit the neurodegenerative process and improves the outcome for the affected individual. READ MORE

3. Transition metal-catalyzed allylic and vinylic functionalization : Method development and mechanistic investigations
Abstract : The use of small molecule building blocks in, for example, pharmaceutical research and new material development, creates a need for new and improved organic synthesis methods. The use of transition metals as mediators and catalysts opens up new reaction pathways that have made the synthesis of completely new compounds possible as well as greatly improved the synthetic routes to known compounds. 4. Asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones : Catalyst development and mechanistic investigation
Abstract : The development of ligands derived from natural amino acids for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of prochiral ketones is described herein. In the first part, reductions performed in alcoholic media are examined, where it is found that amino acid-derived hydroxamic acids and thioamides, respectively, are simple and versatile ligands that in combination with [RhCp*Cl2]2 efficiently catalyze this particular transformation. 5. Group (IV) Metal-Catalyzed Direct Amidation : Synthesis and Mechanistic Considerations
Abstract : The amide unit constitutes the backbone of proteins, and it is present in a large number of pharmaceutically active molecules, polymeric materials such as nylon and Kevlar, as well as in food additives like aspartame. Amides are produced in enormous amounts every year, thus, environmentally friendly and selective methods for their formation are of great importance. READ MORE
