  1. 16. Regulation of aortic wall mechanics and stress : An experimental study in man

    Author : Håkan Åstrand; Toste Länne; Matts Karlsson; Martin Björck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aorta; wall stress; remodeling; IMT; gender; diabetes mellitus; aging; collagen; elastin; Vascular surgery; Kärlkirurgi;

    Abstract : The abdominal aorta (AA) in man is a vulnerable artery prone to atherosclerosis as well as aneurysmatic dilation. The underlying aortic composition, mechanical properties as well as the mechanisms responsible for age-related changes and vascular disease are however largely unknown. READ MORE

  2. 17. About hyaluronan in the hypertrophic heart : studies on coordinated regulation of extracellular matrix signalling

    Author : Urban Hellman; Anders Waldenström; Stellan Mörner; Anna Engström-Laurent; Lena Jonasson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : hyaluronan; hyaluronan synthases; gene expression; extracellular matrix; cardiac hypertrophy; rat wistar; male ; cardiomyocytes; growth factors; fibroblasts; microvesicles; exosomes; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Background. Myocardial hypertrophy is a risk factor for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Independent of underlying disease, the cardiac muscle strives in different ways to compensate for an increased workload. This remodelling of the heart includes changes in the extracellular matrix which will affect systolic and diastolic cardiac function. READ MORE

  3. 18. Metabolic signals in the regulation of insulin release

    Author : Jude T Deeney; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : insulin-secreting cells; glucose metabolism; ATP ADP ratio; cytoplasmic free Ca2 concentration; long-chain acyl-CoA; protein kinase C; insulin secretion; serotonin release; permeabilized cells; intracellular Ca2 handling; exocytosis;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, an attempt was made to elucidate the role of some of the glucose-induced intracellular metabolic effector signals in insulin secretion and to develop new applications that will enable further investigations of oscillatory signalling and secretion from pancreatic ß-cells. The sequence of early metabolic and ionic events was examined in clonal pancreatic insulin secreting cells (HIT) in response to glucose stimulation. READ MORE

  4. 19. Revision och lagreglering : ett historiskt perspektiv

    Author : Camilla Sjöström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Laws change due to changes in society’s norms. New laws in turn alter conditions for business and society. Auditing is one of the few professions in Sweden which is governed by comprehensive legislation. Changes in the rules for auditing therefore mean changes in the conditions of an auditor’s daily work. 5. 20. In the gap between legality and legitimacy : illegal hunting in Sweden as a crime of dissent

    Author : Erica Von Essen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : It may be challenging to see how illegal hunting, a crime that ostensibly proceeds as shoot, shovel and shut up in remote rural communities, at all communicates with the regime. Examining the socio-legal interplay between hunters and state regulation, however, clarifies illegal hunting to be part of a politically motivated pattern of dissent that signals hunters’ disenfranchisement from the polity.
