  1. 1. DNA precursor biosynthesis-allosteric regulation and medical applications

    Author : Reza Rofougaran; Anders Hofer; Thomas Borén; Staffan Eriksson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; DNA biosynthesis; ribonucleotide reductase; allosteric regulation; Trypanosoma brucei; adenosine kinase; nucleoside analogs; mitochondrial DNA; TWINKLE; Biokemi; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) is a key enzyme for de novo dNTP biosynthesis. We have studied nucleotide-dependent oligomerization of the allosterically regulated mammalian RNR using a mass spectrometry–related technique called Gas-phase Electrophoretic Mobility Macromolecule Analysis (GEMMA). 2. 2. Studies on the transmembrane signaling of β1 integrins

    Author : Annika Armulik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Integrin β1; signaling; transmembrane domain; CAS; focal adhesion kinase; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Integrins are heterodimeric cell surface receptors, composed of an α and a β subunit, mainly binding for extracellular matrix proteins. lntegrin subunit β1 can combine with at least 12 a subunits and thus form the biggest subfamily within the integrin family. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional studies in yeast of cyclin C and the RNA polymerase II Mediator complex

    Author : Darius Balciunas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Cyclin C; RNA polymerase II; Mediator; glucose repression; RAS cAMP pathway; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : Cyclin C belongs to a group of cyclins that are not cell cycle-regulated. It was first cloned from Drosophila and rat, but its role was not understood until the yeast cyclin C homologue Srb 11 was identified in several genetic screens for transcriptional repressors and subsequently was shown to be associated with the RNA polymerase II Mediator complex. 4. 4. The expression and regulation of hyaluronan synthases and their role in glycosaminoglycan synthesis

    Author : Jonas Brinck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; hyaluronan; glycosaminoglycans; CD44; growth factors; UDP-glucose dehydrogenase; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Medical Biochemistry; medicinsk biokemi;

    Abstract : The glycosaminoglycan hyaluronan is an essential component of the extracellular matrix in all higher organisms, affecting cellular processes such as migration, proliferation and differentiation. Hyaluronan is synthesized by a plasma membrane bound hyaluronan synthase (HAS) which exists in three genetic isoforms. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Structural Basis of the Control of Actin Dynamics by the Gelsolin Superfamily Proteins

    Author : Sakesit Chumnarnsilpa; Robert Robinson; Lars Backman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Rearrangement of the actin cytoskeleton occurs in a variety of cellular processes and structures and involves a wide spectrum of proteins. Among these, the gelsolin superfamily proteins (GSPs) control actin organization by severing filaments, capping filament ends and bundling filaments. READ MORE
