16. Extracellular matrix as a regulator of cell behavior : Biological effects of hyaluronan biosynthesis and catabolism
Abstract : Extracellular matrix surrounding cells is an important regulator of cellular functions. Hyaluronan (HA) is a glycosaminoglyean and a constituent component of the extracellular matrix in all tissues. It is synthesized by hyaluronan syntheses (HAS) at the inner surface of cell membrane and degraded by hyaluronidases to small fragments. READ MORE

17. Novel chemical and enzymatic routes to the generation of heparin- related polysaccarides
Abstract : Heparin and heparan sulphate (HS) are structurally related polysaccharides influencing various biological processes. The biological functions of heparin/HS largely depend on interactions between the negatively charged polysaccharide chains and a variety of proteins. READ MORE

18. Characterisation of integrin splice variants and the interaction between integrins and the urokinase receptor
Abstract : Integrins are a family of receptors involved in adhesion to extracellular matrix proteins and in cell-cell contacts. Each integrin consists of one a and one β subunit. Our main interest has been the β1 subunit and its splice variants. READ MORE

19. Intracellular processing of pre-a-inhibitor
Abstract : Pre-α-inhibitor (PαI) is a plasma protein consisting of a 25 and a 75 kDa polypeptide: bikunin and heavy chain 3 (H3), respectively. Both these polypeptides are made by hepatocytes and while passing through the Golgi complex, bikunin, which carries a chondroitin sulfate chain, becomes covalently linked to the C-terminal amino acid residue of H3 via its polysaccharide. 20. Neural Stem and Progenitor Cells as a Tool for Tissue Regeneration
Abstract : Neural stem and progenitor cells (NSPC) can differentiate to neurons and glial cells. NSPC are easily propagated in vitro and are therefore an attractive tool for tissue regeneration. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common cause for death and disabilities. A fundamental problem following TBI is tissue loss. READ MORE
