1. Treeline dynamics in short and long term perspectives : observational and historical evidence from the southern Swedish Scandes
Abstract : Against the background of past, recent and future climate change, the present thesis addresses elevational shifts of alpine treelines in the Swedish Scandes. By definition, treeline refers to the elevation (m a.s.l. READ MORE

2. Tree-limit ecotonal response to Holocene climate change in the Scandes Mountains of west-central Sweden
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to reconstruct the Holocene vegetational and climatic development in the Sylarna-Storulvån area, western Jämtland, in the central Scandes Mountains. Temporal trends and fluctuations in the elevation and vegetational character of the tree-limit ecotone were studied mainly by means of pollen and plant macrofossil analysis of two lake sediment sequences (Lakes Stentjärn and Spåime), located above the present-day tree-limit. 3. The Gnetales: fossils and phylogenies
Abstract : The phylogeny of seed plants has been debated for more than a hundred years and is still not fully understood. Morphological analyses have consistently resulted in a phylogeny in which cycads are the earliest diverging seed plants, and Gnetales and angiosperms are sisters. Molecular data has, however, rarely supported this result. READ MORE

4. Treeline dynamics in short and long term perspectives : observational and historical evidence from the southern Swedish Scandes
Abstract : Treelines in high-mountain regions are constrained by heat deficiency, although the working mechanisms are still not entirely understood. Observational and paleoecological studies on treeline performance may contribute to increased understanding of the treeline phenomenon in general. READ MORE
