  1. 11. Spontaneous and induced mutations at the human minisatellite MS32 in yeast

    Author : Henrik Appelgren; Yuri Dubrova; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; toxikologisk genetik; Genetic Toxicology;

    Abstract : Tandem repetitive DNA including minisatellites make up a large part of eukaryotic genomes, and some tandem repetitive loci are associated with human disease. Little is known about the functions and dynamics of these sequences. Hypervariable minisatellites are used as naturally occurring genetic markers and form the basis of DNA fingerprinting. READ MORE

  2. 12. Chromosome rearrangements do not prevent gene flow in the common shrew, Sorex araneus : Analysis of two chromosomal hybrid zones in Sweden

    Author : Yolanda Narain; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Genetics; genetik; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Two chromosomal hybrid zones of the common shrew, Sorex araneus, have been investigated: the Hällefors-Uppsala hybrid zone in central Sweden and the Abisko-Sidensjö hybrid zone in northern Sweden. The Hällefors (Hä) and Uppsala (Up) chromosome races consisted of biarmed autosomes only (2nA=18), and differed in the Robertsonian fusions of two arms, ko, pq, and kp, oq, respectively. READ MORE

  3. 13. Morphometric and molecular variation in the Nordic dogroses (Rosa Sect. Caninae, Rosaceae)

    Author : Åsa Olsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systematisk botanik; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Genetic diversity; Geographic differentiation; Systematic botany; RAPDs; taxonomy; morphology; phytogeography; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .; taxonomi; morfologi;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, I investigate the hierarchical structure of morphometric and molecular diversity within and between the Nordic dogroses (Rosa Sect. Caninae, Rosaceae). I also investigate patterns of geographic differentiation and taxonomic relationships within the group. READ MORE

  4. 14. Meiotic chromosome segregation : molecular analysis of the synaptonemal complex

    Author : Li Yuan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Meiosis is a special type of cell division that produces haploid gametes from diploid parental cells. As such, meiosis stands at the gateway to sexual reproduction in most eukaryotic organisms. During meiosis, a complex, but tightly coordinated series of events occur. Homologous chromosomes come together and pair along their entire length. READ MORE

  5. 15. Hybrid sterility and genetic incompatibilities in Ficedula flycatchers

    Author : Carolina Segami; Anna Qvarnström; Scott Edwards; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Speciation; genetic incompatibilities; hybrid sterility; hybrid inviability; single-cell RNA seq; GRC; Ficedula; flycatcher; intrinsic post-zygotic isolation; BDMI;

    Abstract : Although the theory behind the mechanisms generating intrinsic post-zygotic isolation is well established, very few concrete examples of genetic incompatibilities have been described, especially in vertebrates. Consequently, our understanding of the evolutionary forces shaping the appearance of genetic incompatibilities between natural populations and the overall role of genetic incompatibilities in the speciation process is limited.
