1. Melt flow and surface stability effects on polymer flammability : A study on polystyrene, flexible polyurethane foam and polyolefin composites
Abstract : Our ability to accurately determine the flammability properties of polymers is hampered bythe erratic effects of deformation and liquid flow that occur during polymer combustion. This study aims to improve the understanding of such effects at several levels: The often obvious impact of melt flow on standardized flammability test methods forelectrical appliances is described to identify the need and to motivate others to worktowards an improved material characterization. 2. Combustion dynamics and melt dripping of ethylene-acrylate copolyer composites
Abstract : The degradation and combustion of blends of ethylene-acryalte copolymer with calcium carbonate and silicone were studied by a combination of flammability tests, in-situ measurements and analytical experiments. Compounds of poly(ethylene-co-methacrylic acid) blended with precipitated calcium carbonate nanoparticles were prepared. READ MORE

3. Improved Flame Retardant Properties of a Halogen-Free Material for Cable Applications
Abstract : Due to the large amount of electric equipment in our surroundings, fire safety of cable materials is becoming increasingly important. Because of environmental and health issues, much focus is on development of halogen-free materials. In this thesis, a halogen-free flame retardant material named Casico™ is studied. READ MORE

4. Polyolefin Flame Retardant Cable Materials - Effect of Additives and Copolymer Structure
Abstract : Fire safety of cables is becoming increasingly important as the use of electrical equipment steadily increases. Due to their excellent dielectric properties, polyolefin materials are widely used as insulating materials for cables. However, polyolefins are inherently flammable and need to be protected to meet the requirements on flame retardancy. READ MORE

5. Phosphorylated Cellulose Nanofibrils : A Nano-Tool for Preparing Cellulose-Based Flame-Retardant Materials
Abstract : The growing awareness of the need for a circular society and a circular chemistry has spurred the interest in using wood-based cellulose as a raw material for the preparation of new macroscopic devices and construction materials. The interest has been particularly focused on cellulose nanofibrils (CNF), which has led to the development of new material concepts through a nanoscale bottom-up engineering using renewable CNF.
