  1. 1. Regulators of Membrane Fluidity

    Author : Kiran Busayavalasa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PAQR; LRIG; membrane fluidity;

    Abstract : Caenorhabditis elegans PAQR-2 (a homolog of the mammalian AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 proteins) and IGLR-2 (homolog of the mammalian LRIG proteins) form a complex at the plasma membrane that regulates fatty acid desaturation to protect against saturated fatty acid-induced membrane rigidification. Maintenance of membrane homeostasis is fundamental for most cellular processes and, given its importance, robust regulatory mechanisms must exist that adjust lipid composition to compensate for dietary variation. 2. 2. Membrane Fluidity Regulation: From C. elegans to mammalian cells

    Author : Ranjan Devkota; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PAQR-2; adiponectin receptors; IGLR-2; saturated fats; membrane fluidity; fatty acid desaturation; unsaturated fatty acid; membrane homeostasis;

    Abstract : Biological membranes are primarily an assembly of lipids and proteins. Collectively, these constituents within a phospholipid bilayer determine the physical membrane properties such as fluidity, viscosity, thickness, packing and permeability. Maintenance of membrane properties within acceptable margins, i.e. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cell Membrane Homeostasis in Mammals - The roles of ADIPOR2 and TLCD1 & 2

    Author : Henrik Palmgren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Membrane lipids; Membrane fluidity; Membrane homeostasis; Dietary lipids; Phospholipids; Genetics; Lipotoxicity; Lipidomics; ADIPOR2; TLCD1; TLCD2;

    Abstract : Ten nanometers. That is the approximate thickness of the plasma membrane that separates the extracellular space from the entire cellular machinery. An asymmetrical bilayer consisting of predominantly phospholipids in which proteins and carbohydrates are anchored and exert their function. READ MORE

  4. 4. Xanthophyll Cycle in the Light of Thylakoid Membrane Lipids - Membrane Packing, Curvature Elastic Stress and Enzyme Binding

    Author : Anna Szilagyi; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; steroider; Lipids; steroids; membranes; Lipider; enzymologi; HPLC; laurdan; fluorescence spectroscopy; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; curvature elastic stress; enzyme binding; thylakoid membrane; membrane fluidity; lipid packing; histidine; VDE; zeaxanthin; xanthophyll cycle; mebran;

    Abstract : The xanthophyll cycle involves the light-dependent and reversible conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. The enzyme, violaxanthin de-epoxidase (VDE) catalyses the conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin, via the intermediate antheraxanthin. VDE is a membrane-hosted enzyme during its activity. 5. 5. C. elegans PAQR-2 ‒ A Regulator of Membrane Homeostasis

    Author : Emma Svensk; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PAQR; LRRIG; glucose; membrane fluidity; desaturase; homeoviscous adaptation;

    Abstract : The progestin and adipoQ receptor (PAQR) protein family is characterized by a 7-transmembrane domain, and a topology reversed that of G-protein coupled receptors, i.e. the N-terminus resides in the cytoplasm. READ MORE
