1. Exploring the Interplay of Lipids and Membrane Proteins
Abstract : The interplay between lipids and membrane proteins is known to affect membrane protein topology and thus have significant effect (control) on their functions. In this PhD thesis, the influence of lipids on the membrane protein function was studied using three different membrane protein models. READ MORE

2. The Membrane Proteome : Evolution, Characteristics and Classification
Abstract : Membrane proteins are found in all kingdoms of life and are essential for cellular interactions with the environment. Although a large research effort have been put into this group many membrane proteins remains uncharacterized, both in terms of function and evolutionary history. READ MORE

3. Cell-penetrating peptides in model membrane systems : Interaction, structure induction and membrane effects
Abstract : Despite continuing advances in the development of macromolecules, including peptides, proteins, and oligonucleotides, for therapeutic purposes, the successful application of these hydrophilic molecules has so far been hampered by their inability to efficiently traverse the plasma membrane. The discovery of a class of peptides (cell-penetrating peptides, CPPs) with the ability to mediate the non-invasive and efficient import of a whole host of cargoes, both in vitro and in vivo, has provided a new means by which the problem associated with cellular delivery can be circumvented. 4. Model Adaptivity in Elasticity
Abstract : We consider model adaptivity in elasticity for dimensionally reduced forms, and shall treat different conceptual approaches. The basic idea, however, is to adaptively refine, not only the computational mesh, but also the underlying mathematical formulation. READ MORE

5. Interaction of Calcium Ions with Lipid Membranes
Abstract : Bilayer membranes enclose and shield the biological cell and its inner compartments, as well as the tubular networks that exist within and between the cells. Due to their fluidic nature, the membranes are incredibly dynamic and flexible, which allows them to bend, reshape and fuse in response to mechanical and chemical stimuli within their natural microenvironments.
