  1. 1. Regulation of gene and protein expression : two model systems

    Author : Lars H Lund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HIV-1; EIAV; Tat; TAR; Cyclin T1; CDK9; P-TEFb; RNA polymerase II; gene regulation; transcriptional elongation; CEA; signal sequence.;

    Abstract : Genetic information is expressed by DNA transcription and mRNA translation. With few exceptions, every cell of an organism, or the human body, contains the same genetic information. Yet the structure and function of different tissues are highly variable. READ MORE

  2. 2. Downstream Processing Using Membrane Technology

    Author : Anna Persson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Biochemical technology; Chemical technology and engineering; Protein A; Bovine serum albumin; Lactic acid; Electrodialysis; Ultrafiltration; Microfiltration; Downstream processing; Membrane; Biokemisk teknik;

    Abstract : Membrane filtration is a very gentle separation technique and can be used at low temperatures. This makes it suitable for liquids that contain micro-organisms and/or are heat sensitive, which is often the case in liquids processed in the field of biotechnology. READ MORE

  3. 3. Protein phosphorylation in plant mitochondria

    Author : André Struglics; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; FoF1-ATPase; autophosphorylation; protein kinase activity; protein phosphorylation; Plant mitochondria; inner mitochondrial membrane; NDPK; Physiological biophysics; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Protein phosphorylation in the subcompartments of plant mitochondria was investigated by labelling with [gamma-32P]ATP and by SDS-PAGE/autoradiography. About 20 proteins in inside-out inner mitochondrial membranes from potato tubers were phosphorylated by endogenous protein kinases when incubated with [gamma-32P]ATP. READ MORE

  4. 4. Clinical studies in multiple myeloma

    Author : Johan Lund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Multiple Myeloma (MM) is an incurably disease of the bone marrow. It is characterized by the uncontrolled growth of clonal plasma cells (PCs) and leads to production of non-functional gammaglobulin. Clinical features include loss of normal bone marrow function, defect bone structure and kidney failure. READ MORE

  5. 5. Magnetic relaxation studies of self-associating and membrane proteins

    Author : Michael Gottschalk; Lund University Bioimaging Center; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; beta-lactoglobulin A; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; HEWL; BPTI; bacteriorhodopsin; protein self-association; membrane proteins; NMR; magnetic relaxation dispersion;

    Abstract : Magnetic relaxation dispersion measurements have been performed on aqueous protein solutions to study the dynamics of waters in the proton transport channel of bacteriorhodopsin and the self-association of the proteins BPTI, lysozyme and beta-lactoglobulin. The measurements have focused on the bulk relaxation rates, R1 and R2, of three water nuclei 1H, 2H and 17O that are coupled to the protein environments by exchange and therefore report on properties such as the protein tumbling and dynamics of internal waters.
