  1. 1. Mercury immobilization : a requirement for permanent disposal of mercury waste in Sweden

    Author : Margareta Svensson; Bert Allard; Anders Düker; Björn Öhlander; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mercury; mercury sulphide; cinnabar; stabilization; solidification; encapsulation; monolith leaching; solubility; mercury speciation; diffusion; apparent diffusion coefficient; Chemistry; Kemi; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The Swedish Government states that mercury in the Swedish industry and private use shall be collected and waste containing more than 1% of mercury shall be conditioned for permanent storage in proposed groundwater-saturated repository in deep bedrock. The owners of mercury waste in Sweden are responsible for finding ways to the conversion of the mercury waste to insoluble forms. READ MORE

  2. 2. Remediation of mercury polluted soil

    Author : Thomas Lifvergren; Bert Allard; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : soil pollution; soil remediaion; mercury; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Mercury in contaminated soil constitutes a wide spectrum of species with highly different properties due to the chemical complexity of the element. Assessments of risk, ecological effects and removal potential require process and mobility studies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hydrometallurgical upgrading of a tetrahedrite-rich copper concentrate

    Author : Samuel Ayowole Awe; Gouzhu Ye; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : Removal of impurity elements in copper metallurgy is one of the major problems encountered today since pure copper ore reserves are becoming exhausted and the resources of unexploited ores often contain relatively high amounts of antimony, arsenic, mercury and bismuth, which need to be eliminated. The present work aims at pre-treating a tetrahedrite rich complex copper sulphide concentrate by selective dissolution of the impurities, therefore, upgrading it for pyrometallurgical processing.
