  1. 11. Structures and processes in the Mercury magnetosphere

    Author : Elisabet Liljeblad; Tomas Karlsson; Anita Kullen; Haje Korth; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mercury; MESSENGER; magnetosphere; processes; structures; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The mechanisms involved in the transfer of mass and energy from the solar wind to any planetary magnetosphere is considered an important topic in space physics. With the use of the Mercury spacecraft MESSENGER's data, it has been possible to study these processes in an environment different, yet similar, to Earth's. READ MORE

  4. 14. Regolith Properties of Mercury Derived from Observations and Modelling

    Author : Johan Warell; Nick Thomas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Mercury; Moon; imaging; photometry; spectroscopy; regolith; space weathering; light scattering; spectral modelling; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; astronomi; Astronomy;

    Abstract : The properties of Mercury's regolith have been investigated at optical and near-infrared wavelengths with high-resolution imaging, photometric, and spectroscopic observations with the Swedish Vacuum Solar Telescope and the Nordic Optical Telescope. A new global optical map at a spatial resolution of 200 km shows that the well known (from Mariner 10) and poorly known hemispheres are indistinguishable with respect to the distribution, number density, and morphological parameters of bright albedo features. 5. 15. Determination of mercury chemical speciation in the presence of low molecular mass thiols and its importance for mercury methylation

    Author : Van Liem-Nguyen; Erik Björn; Ulf Skyllberg; Cynthia Gilmour; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mercury; methylmercury; LMM thiol; mass spectrometry; biogeochemistry; soil; sediment; ICP; WinSGW; modeling; S XANES; ligand exchange; stability constant; boreal wetlands; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; Environmental Science; miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Methylmercury (MeHg) is a neurotoxic compound that threatens the well-being of humans and wildlife. It is formed through the methylation of inorganic mercury (HgII) under suboxic/anoxic conditions in soils, sediment and waters. READ MORE
