  1. 21. GDNF family ligands and neural stem cells in Parkinson's disease

    Author : Peter Åkerud; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Parkinson's disease (PD) is a very common neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by a progressive degeneration of mainly nigrostriatal and mesolimbic dopaminergic neurons leading to tremor, rigidity and hypokinesia, the classical symptoms of the disease. Degeneration of noradrenergic neurons of the locus coeruleus are also involved in the progression of the disease, causing dementia and depression. READ MORE

  2. 22. Chiral and toxicological aspects of citalopram : an experimental study in rats

    Author : Fredrik C. Kugelberg; Olav Spigset; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Citalopram (CIT) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), which is used for the treatment of different psychiatric disorders. The indications for prescription of OT are linked to high risks for intentional intoxications. CIT is one of the most commonly found drugs in Swedish forensic autopsy cases. READ MORE

  3. 23. Perinatal asphyxia in the rat : a morphological and functional analysis of the dopamine systems and dopamine-mediated behaviours in a novel experimental model

    Author : Yong Chen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Rat; Perinatal asphyxia; Dopamine; Noradrenaline; Dopamine receptors; Substantia nigra; Ventral tegmental area; Striatum; Accumbens nucleus; Locomotor activity; Attention disorders; bFGF; Fos; pH; pyruvate; lactate; glutamate; aspartate.;

    Abstract : Asphyxia during labour in the human being is one of the important paediatric complications which can lead to various degree of injuries in the central nervous system. No efficient therapy is available at present. READ MORE

  4. 24. Survival of Cultured and Grafted Embryonic Dopaminergic Neurones - Effects of hypothermia and prevention of oxidative stress

    Author : Jenny Karlsson; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; 6-OHDA; lazaroid; PBN; brain; transplant; Parkinson s disease; dopamine; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Transplantation of embryonic dopaminergic neurones can ameliorate symptoms in Parkinson’s disease, but a major obstacle for clinical transplantations to overcome is the low survival (typically 5-10%) of implanted nigral neurones. If cell death in nigral grafts can be prevented, less embryonic tissue would be needed per transplantation session and hence more patients could receive intracerebral grafts as a therapy for Parkinson’s disease. 5. 25. From dopamine nerve fiber formation to astrocytes

    Author : Franziska Marschinke; Ingrid Strömberg; Cecilia Lundberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dopamine; dopaminergic neurons; astroglia; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Histology; Histologi; neurologi; Neurology;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease and characterized by the loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra in the midbrain. The causes of the disease are still unknown. READ MORE
