  2. 12. Biogenesis of messenger and ribosomal RNPs in the eukaryotic cell

    Author : Petra Björk; Juan Valcárcel; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Physical Biology; fysikalisk biologi;

    Abstract : In eukaryotic cells, gene expression involves multi-step processes in the nucleus and the cytoplasm. The different processes engage specific RNA-protein complexes, RNPs. Upon activation of most, if not all genes, a precursor RNA molecule is synthesized that has to be extensively processed and modified. READ MORE

  3. 13. Airborne nitric oxide : inflammatory marker and aerocrine messenger in man

    Author : Jon Lundberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ARDS; asthma; cystic fibrosis; cystitis; exhaled air; inflammatory bowel disease; inhaled nitric oxide; Kartagener s syndrome; nitric oxide synthase; sinusitis; ;

    Abstract : We have used a chemiluminescence technique to measure gaseous nitric oxide (NO) directly in hollow organs of humans. NO production was studied in the airways of healthy controls and patients with chronic inflammatory airway disease, in the stomach of healthy subjects, in the colon of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, and in the urinary bladder of patients with cystitis. Abstract : With the continued accumulation of genomic data at ever increasing resolution the challenge ahead lies in reading out meaningful clinical/biological information form the data that can contribute to a better understanding of the cancerous process. The need for novel approaches, new statistical methods is therefore strong. READ MORE
