21. Metabolic responsiveness to growth hormone in children
Abstract : Metabolic effects of growth hormone (GH) therapy in short children have not been clearly established owing to the previous lack of controlled trials studying the metabolic outcome in response to different GH doses despite the known effects of GH on insulin sensitivity, lipid profile, and body composition. It has previously been shown that individualized GH doses during catch-up growth significantly reduce the proportion of unexpectedly good and poor responders around a predefined individual growth target in short prepubertal children. 22. Metabolic and endocrine effects of SGLT2 inhibition
Abstract : Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are two growing global health problems with similar comorbidity profiles. SGLT2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) improve blood glucose control and can relieve both T2D and obesity, as well as their associated health problems such as hypertension, kidney failure, and cardiovascular disease. 23. Exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA) and Metabolic Disruption
Abstract : Metbolic disorders such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, liver lipid disorders and metabolic syndrome are increasing rapidly and have largely been attributed to genetic background and changes in diet, exercise and aging. However, there is now considerable evidence showing that other environmental factors, including environmental chemicals, may contribute to the rapid increase in the incidence of these metabolic diseases. 24. Impact of different interventions on cardiovascular risk factors
Abstract : Obesity and related complications such as diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM) and cardiovascular events, are a growing major health problem worldwide. Achieving a negative energy balance by increasing physical activity in combination with reduced caloric intake, is the most common approach in weight reduction strategies, something that is difficult to maintain in the long term. 25. Endocannabinoid metabolism : the impact of inflammatory factors and pharmacological inhibitors
Abstract : The endocannabinoid (eCB) system is an endogenous signaling system consisting of ligands (referred to as endocannabinoids, eCBs), receptors and metabolic enzymes. The eCB system is involved in homeostatic control of a variety of biological functions such as neuronal signaling, mood, appetite and pathological conditions such as pain, inflammation and tumour progression.
