  1. 21. Systems biology techniques show high prevalence of post-translational regulation in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis PCC 6803

    Author : Jan Karlsen; Elton Paul Hudson; Martin Hagemann; KTH; []
    Keywords : systems biology; sustainable development; omics; ribosome profiling; RNA sequencing; proteomics; genetic engineering; bioproduction; cyanobacteria; gene regulation; metabolism; translational regulation; post-translational regulation; bioinformatics; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Earth's climate has been upset by carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from human activities and the use of fossil resources. To prevent catastrophic events on the environment and on civilizations, we urgently need to develop alternative solutions that utilize renewable resources. READ MORE

  2. 22. Single-cell methodologies for ecological and metabolic mapping of mixotrophic microeukaryotes

    Author : Javier Florenza; Stefan Bertilsson; Alexandra Z. Worden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mixotrophy; single-cell;

    Abstract : Mixotrophy in aquatic protists is pivotal for our understanding of aquatic microbial food web dynamics. This thesis is centered around aquatic unicellular mixotrophs, and comprises three methodological approaches aimed to tackle mixotroph ecology at single-cell resolution: the identification of actively feeding mixotrophs in natural samples, the determination of specific interactions among mixotrophs and bacterial prey, and the profiling of two distinct mixotrophic populations based on the gene expression of their constitutive individuals. 3. 23. Visualizing and profiling tissue lipids by ToF-SIMS imaging mass spectrometry

    Author : Dalila Belazi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) is an emerging surface analytical method for chemical microanalysis of biological samples. While much work has been done with artificial materials and some with cultured cells and animal tissue, very little ToF-SIMS work has been done so far with clinically relevant tissue samples. 4. 24. Development of Methods for Protein and Peptide Analysis Applied in Neuroscience Utilizing Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Johan Pierson; Per Andrén; Ulf Bondesson; György Marko-Varga; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Mass spectrometry; Parkinson’s disease; Metabolism; Profiling Mass Spectrometry; Proteomics; Analytisk kemi; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the utilization of the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (MALDI MS) and electrospray ionization (ESI) MS techniques for analysis of complex brain tissue samples. Direct molecular profiling of biological samples using MALDI MS is a powerful tool for identifying phenotypic markers. READ MORE

  5. 25. Integrative Approaches in Shotgun Proteomics : From sample preparation to multifaceted data analysis

    Author : Mariya Nezhyva; Erik T. Jansson; Per Andrén; Gustaf Christoffersson; Jesper Velgaard Olsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : bottom-up proteomics; thermal proteome profiling; mass-spectrometry imaging; data analysis; melanocortin receptor; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Abstract : Bottom-up proteomics mass-spectrometry gives an opportunity to shed light on var-ious biological aspects/characteristics such as protein composition, its modifications,interactions, and dynamics. Its applications span a wide range of biological sciencesaiming to eventually answer fundamental disease related questions or evaluate drugperformance and predict adverse effects. READ MORE
