  1. 11. Spices in the postprandial metabolic regulation of healthy humans : An integrated physiological and omics approach

    Author : Yoghatama Cindya Zanzer; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : Spices; Postprandial; Glycemia; Lipemia; Appetite regulation; Metabolic endotoxemia; Bile acids; Transcriptomics; Nutrigenomics;

    Abstract : Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a consequence of obesity and defined as cluster of at least three out of five criteria covering insulin resistance/glucose intolerance, abdominal obesity, hypertension, low HDL-c and elevated TG levels. Imbalance between energy intake and expenditure is known to alter normal physiological function in many aspects, and leads to obesity, which in the long run may turn into type 2 diabetes (T2D) and ultimately cardiovascular disease (CVD). 2. 12. Metabolic regulation of nitrogen fixation in Rhodospirillum rubrum

    Author : He Wang; Stefan Nordlund; Patrick Hallenbeck; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rhodospirillum rubrum; nitrogen fixation; switch-off; PII; AmtB1; DRAG; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Nitrogen, along with carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, is amongst the most abundant elements in all living cells. The capability to convert atmospheric dinitrogen to biologically usable nitrogen compounds is only found in some prokaryotes. READ MORE

  3. 13. Polycystic ovary syndrome : a study of adipocyte lipolysis in relation to endocrine and metabolic status

    Author : Ingvar Ek; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Adipocyte; beta-adrenoceptors; FFA; hyperandrogenism; HSL; insulin resistance; lipolysis; PCOS; PKA;

    Abstract : The aim of the present thesis was to obtain insight into possible regulatory effects of androgens on the regulation of lipolysis in subcutaneous as well as visceral adipose tissue in women with the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In non-obese women with PCOS, adrenergic lipolysis was investigated in both subcutaneous abdominal and visceral adipose tissue and several, novel disturbances were found. READ MORE

  4. 14. Diet and Metabolic Risk Factors in Immigrant Women from the Middle East and Swedish-Born Women : A Cross-Sectional Study of Women from Iran, Turkey and Sweden

    Author : Achraf Daryani; Bengt Vessby; Brita karlström; Per Wändell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Caring sciences; cardiovascular factors; metabolic risk factors; immigrants; Iranian; Turkish; Swedish; Middle East; dietary intake; underreporting; dietary fat; fat sources; antioxidant intake; oxidative stress; inflammation; C-reactive protein; isoprostanes; Vårdvetenskap;

    Abstract : The increasing number of immigrants in Sweden during the past decades has brought the health of different ethnic groups into focus. Many groups of immigrants in Sweden have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and coronary heart disease (CHD) than a Swedish reference group. READ MORE

  5. 15. Relations between metabolic rate, migration and behaviour in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and brown trout (Salmo trutta)

    Author : Linnea Lans; Larry Greenberg; Eva Bergman; Jörgen Johnsson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atlantic salmon; brown trout; Standard metabolic rate; behaviour; migration; Ethology and behavioural ecology; Etologi och beteendeekologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract :   ABSTRACT   Migration is common among populations of brown trout (Salmo trutta) and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). However, not all individuals in the same population migrate, a phenomenon referred to as partial migration. READ MORE
