1. New Reactions with Allyl- and Allenylboron Reagents : Transition-Metal-Catalyzed and Transition-Metal-Free Carbon-Carbon Bond Formation Processes
Abstract : Organoboron compounds have been widely used in carbon-carbon bond formation reactions in organic synthesis and catalysis. This thesis is focused on cross-coupling reactions of allyl-, allenylboronic acids and their ester derivatives via transition metal catalysis or transition-metal-free processes. READ MORE

2. Carbenes: The Gathering : Photophysics of Transition Metal Carbene Complexes
Abstract : This thesis explores the photophysics of some transition-metal complexes (TMCs) which utilize N-heterocyclic carbenes as ligands. After a historical interlude which traces the development of the broader field of transition metal complexes and their photophysical investigations, there is an overview of theoretical concepts and the spectroscopic methods employed. 3. Development of new Fluorination Methods Directed to Fluorine-18 Labelling
Abstract : This thesis deals with the development of new fluorination reactions and their application to fluorine-18 labelling. Fluorine-18 labelled compounds are employed as tracers in Positron Emission Tomography (PET), which is a powerful non-invasive imaging method in medical diagnostics. READ MORE

4. Modeling Photofunctional Transition Metal Complexes
Abstract : Transition metal complexes play a crucial role in solar energy conversion. These coordination compounds have promising applications in dye-sensitized solar cells and photocatalysis, with particular interest in solar fuel production. READ MORE

5. Transition metal-catalyzed reduction of carbonyl compounds : Fe, Ru and Rh complexes as powerful hydride mediators
Abstract : A detailed mechanistic investigation of the previously reported ruthenium pseudo-dipeptide-catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of aromatic ketones was performed. It was found that the addition of alkali metals has a large influence on both the reaction rate and the selectivity, and that the rate of the reaction was substantially increased when THF was used as a co-solvent.
