  1. 1. Surface reactivity of metal nanoparticles : - importance of surface active agents and biomolecules from a transformation, mobility and toxicity perspective

    Author : Sara Skoglund; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Lars Österlund; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metal nanoparticles; surfactants; metal release; characterization; size distribution; nanotoxicology; risk assessment; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Metallic nanoparticles possess unique properties due to their size and are widely used in e.g. consumer products. From this follows a need to identify and assess potential risks of human and environmental exposure. READ MORE

  2. 2. Low-frequency noise characterization, evaluation and modeling of advanced Si- and SiGe-based CMOS transistors

    Author : Martin von Haartman; Mikael Östling; Cor Claeys; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MOSFET; SOI; SiGe; strain; high-k; metal gate; 1 f noise; low-frequency noise; mobility fluctuations; phonons; number fluctuations; traps; buried channel; mobility; substrate bias; Electronics; Elektronik;

    Abstract : A wide variety of novel complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) devices that are strong contenders for future high-speed and low-noise RF circuits have been evaluated by means of static electrical measurements and low-frequency noise characterizations in this thesis. These novel field-effect transistors (FETs) include (i) compressively strained SiGe channel pMOSFETs, (ii) tensile strained Si nMOSFETs, (iii) MOSFETs with high-k gate dielectrics, (iv) metal gate and (v) silicon-on-insulator (SOI) devices. 3. 3. Modeling and characterization of novel MOS devices

    Author : Stefan Persson; KTH; []
    Keywords : MOSFET; SiGe; high-k dielectric; metal gate; mobility; charge sheet model; retrograde channel structure; intrinsic charge; intrinsic capacitance; contact resistivity;

    Abstract : Challenges with integrating high-κ gate dielectric,retrograde Si1-xGexchannel and silicided contacts in future CMOStechnologies are investigated experimentally and theoreticallyin this thesis. ρMOSFETs with either Si or strained Si1-xGex surface-channel and different high-κgate dielectric are examined. 4. 4. Diffusive interactions play an important role in protein stability and mobility : Investigations of the intracellular milieu using in-cell NMR

    Author : Therese Sörensen; Mikael Oliveberg; Per Jemth; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; in-cell NMR; protein-protein interactions; mobility; stability; thermodynamics; Nuclear Magnetic Resonance; stopped-flow spectroscopy; proteins; SOD1; HAH1; TTHA1718; cells; cytoplasm; humans; bacteria; ions; polyions; electrostatics; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Proteins are crucial for all cellular life. Every signal received by a cell, and every response to it, is mediated by proteins. Inside cells, these proteins diffusively sample each other’s surfaces, as they travel through the cytoplasm in search of their specific interaction partners. READ MORE

  5. 5. Metal distribution and mobility under alkaline conditions

    Author : Mårten Dario; Bert Allard; Yngve Albinsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Kemi; Adsorption; Colloids; Nuclear waste; Cement; Montmorillonite; miljökemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The adsorption of an element, expressed as its distribution between liquid (aquatic) and solid phases in the biogeosphere, largely determines its mobility and transport properties. This is of fundamental importance in the assessment of the performance of e.g. geologic repositories for hazardous elements like radionuclides. READ MORE
