1. Structural studies of metal-binding proteins revealing dynamic behaviour
Abstract : The Mg2+ and Mn2+ structures of calbindin D9k have been determined and they reveal a conformational change compared to the structures of apo and (Ca2+)2-calbindin D9k. These findings are unique, since normally calcium and not magnesium is known to induce conformational changes of EF-hand proteins. READ MORE

2. Engineering of staphylococcal surfaces for biotechnological applications
Abstract : The engineering of bacterial surfaces has in recent yearsattracted a lot of attention with applications in manydifferent areas of bioscience. Here we describe the use of twodifferent surface display systems for the gram-positivebacteria Staphylococcus carnosus and Staphylococcus xylosus invarious biotechnological applications. READ MORE

3. Structural and physicochemical studies on metal and porphyrin binding by the Bacillus subtilis ferrochelatase
Abstract : The enzyme ferrochelatase (EC 4.99.1.1) is the terminal enzyme in the biosynthetic pathway of heme b and catalyzes the insertion of Fe(II) into protoporphyrin IX. READ MORE

4. Crystallographic studies on porphyrin metallation by ferrochelatase
Abstract : Ferrochelatase catalyses the terminal step in heme biosynthesis by inserting a ferrous ion into protoporphyrin IX. The reaction mechanism has in this thesis been studied by mainly crystallographic methods. READ MORE

5. Zinc in folding and misfolding of SOD1 : Implications for ALS
Abstract : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease causing degeneration of upper and lower motor neurons. Most ALS cases are sporadic; only 6% are associated with mutations in Cu, Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1). READ MORE
