  1. 1. Functional Metallic Glasses

    Author : Ansar Masood; Lyubov Belova; K. Venkat Rao; Lars Arnberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : Bulk Metallic glasses; glass forming ability; soft magnetism; thin films; magnetic properties; magnetic hardening; plasticity; biocompatibility;

    Abstract : For decades, Metallic Glass, with its isotropic featureless structure while exhibiting outstanding mechanical properties was possible only at a high rate of quenching and with at least one dimension in the submicron regime.  This limitation was overcome with the discovery of Bulk Metallic glasses, BMGs, containing three or more elements following the additional two empirical rules of optimum geometric size differences and negative energy of mixing among the constituent elements. 2. 2. Microstructure and properties of welds in the lean duplex stainless steel LDX 2101

    Author : Elin M. Westin; John Ågren; Hannu Hänninen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Duplex stainless steel; welding; HAZ; nitrogen; manganese; microstructure; austenite formation; phase balance; precipitates; element distribution; segregation; depletion; solidification; pitting corrosion resistance; solidification; element loss; evaporation; deposition; weld oxide; thermo-mechanical simulation; thermodynamic modelling; EPMA; XPS; post-weld cleaning; pickling; Metallurgical process and manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk process- och produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Duplex stainless steels can be very attractive alternatives to austenitic grades due to their almost double strength at equal pitting corrosion resistance. When welding, the duplex alloys normally require addition of filler metal, while the commodity austenitic grades can often be welded autogenously. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optimisation of Machining Operations by means of Finite Element Method and Tailored Experiments

    Author : Amir Malakizadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Usui wear model; Bi-metals; Flank wear; Johnson-Cook; Inverse identification; Metal cutting; Thermal fatigue cracking; Wear modelling; Finite element method; Response surface methodology;

    Abstract : Traditionally, costly experimental procedures have been followed in industry to optimise the machining operations to secure the maximum efficiency in production line, while the functional requirements of the machined surfaces are fulfilled. In recent years, development of robust numerical techniques such as Finite Element Method (FEM) and advances in computing capacity of computers have made it possible to simulate the machining operations under operational conditions. 4. 4. Finite Element Analysis of Sheet Metal Assemblies : Prediction of Product Performance Considering the Manufacturing Process

    Author : Alexander Govik; Larsgunnar Nilsson; Ramin Moshfegh; Mats Oldenburg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the development of methodologies to be used to simulate complete manufacturing chains of sheet components and the study of how different mechanical properties propagate and influence succeeding component performance.Since sheet metal assemblies are a major constituent of a wide range of products it is vital to develop methodologies that enable detailed evaluation of assembly designs and manufacturing processes. 5. 5. Alloy element redistribution during sintering of powder metallurgy steels

    Author : Abdul Malik Tahir; Gustav Amberg; Jose Manuel Torralba; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cu redistribution kinetics; diffusion; phase field modeling; powder metallurgy; swelling; liquid phase sintering; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : Homogenization of alloying elements is desired during sintering of powder metallurgy components. The redistribution processes such as penetration of liquid phase into the interparticle/grain boundaries of solid particles and subsequent solid-state  diffusion of alloy element(s) in the base powder, are important for the effective homogenization of alloy element(s) during liquid phase sintering of the mixed powders.
