  1. 6. Antibiotic Resistance : Selection in the Presence of Metals and Antimicrobials

    Author : Lisa M. Albrecht; Dan I Andersson; Alex O'Neill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Antibiotic resistance; Metals; Antimicrobials; Bacterial evolution; Bacterial genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Abstract : The external environment is complex: Antibiotics, metals and antimicrobials do not exist in isolation but in mixtures. Human activities such as animal husbandry, fertilization of agricultural fields and human medicine release high amounts these compounds into the environment. READ MORE

  2. 7. Metals in MSWI fly ash - problems or opportunities?

    Author : Karin Karlfeldt Fedje; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HNO3; water; NH3NO4; MSW ash; pH; metals; solvent extraction; speciation; Cu; leaching;

    Abstract : Incineration of municipal solid waste is a commonly used management method to take care of our waste. However, the residues produced are a problem. They often contain large amounts of potentially toxic metal compounds and soluble salts, which can cause harm to the environment and human health if released from the ash. READ MORE

  3. 8. Trace metals in the atmosphere : the wet deposition of trace metals : the selenium cycle

    Author : Howard B. Ross; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb and Zn concentrations in wet deposition have been monitored in Sweden since the autumn of 1983. Concentrations of these elements are highest in southern Sweden and decrease northward. Examination of enrichment factors, relative to crustal material, indicate that the major source of Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn is anthropogenic emissions. READ MORE

    Abstract : Aquatic organisms are constantly at risk of being exposed to potentially harmful chemical compounds of natural or anthropogenic origin. Biological life can for instance respond to chemical stressors by changes in gene expression, and thus, certain gene transcripts can potentially function as biomarkers, i.e. READ MORE

  5. 10. Modeling of Inelastic Response of Metals with Emphasis on Cyclic Viscoplasticity

    Author : Magnus Ekh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; large strains; integration; anisotropy; plasticity; creep; viscoplasticity; kinematic hardening; metals; damage; calibration;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the continuum modeling of the macroscopic behavior of engineering metals, in particular as part of life prediction strategies. Focus is primarily placed on the formulation and numerics of models for cyclic rate-dependent response. READ MORE
