21. Glucagon Counter-Regulation to Hypoglycemia During Incretin-Based Therapy
Abstract : Incretin-based therapy is associated with low risk of hypoglycemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) possibly due to its glucose-dependency in stimulating insulin secretion and a sustained glucagon response during hypoglycemia. This is of special relevance when it is combined with insulin or given to elderly patients since both insulin therapy and high age are associated with impaired glucagon counter-regulation. READ MORE

22. Transformation of Micropollutants in the Hyporheic Zone
Abstract : Hyporheic zones (HZs) are reactive transition regions between rivers and aquifers which are thought to play an important role in the attenuation of micropollutants. Micropollutants are chemical substances such as pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals or personal care products that are found in trace concentrations in the environment and that can be harmful to organisms. 23. Dysglycaemia and cardiovascular disease. Aspects on screening, management, and prognosis
Abstract : Background: Dysglycaemia, in this thesis defined as impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or type 2 diabetes (T2DM), is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). International guidelines recommend screening for dysglycaemia and target-driven lifestyle and pharmacological management in people with high cardiovascular (CV) risk or established CVD for both men and women. 24. Functional genomics approaches to dissect causal DNA variations in obesity and type 2 diabetes
Abstract : GWAS studies have identified hundreds of loci that associate with obesity and type 2 diabetes. However, the functional relevance of the genetic variants, and their impact on disease or traits, is largely unknown. READ MORE

25. Metabolic and endocrine effects of SGLT2 inhibition
Abstract : Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are two growing global health problems with similar comorbidity profiles. SGLT2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) improve blood glucose control and can relieve both T2D and obesity, as well as their associated health problems such as hypertension, kidney failure, and cardiovascular disease.
