  1. 21. Glucagon Counter-Regulation to Hypoglycemia During Incretin-Based Therapy

    Author : Johan Farngren; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Incretin; DPP-4; GLP-1; Glucagon; Hypoglycemia; Diabetes;

    Abstract : Incretin-based therapy is associated with low risk of hypoglycemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) possibly due to its glucose-dependency in stimulating insulin secretion and a sustained glucagon response during hypoglycemia. This is of special relevance when it is combined with insulin or given to elderly patients since both insulin therapy and high age are associated with impaired glucagon counter-regulation. READ MORE

  2. 22. Transformation of Micropollutants in the Hyporheic Zone

    Author : Malte Posselt; Jonathan P. Benskin; Michael Radke; Merle Plassmann; Magnus Breitholtz; Ian Cousins; Gudrun Massmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; micropollutants; hyporheic zone; biodegradation; bacteria; pharmaceuticals; transformation products; LC-MS MS; macrophytes; bedforms; suspect screening; mesocosm; flume; river; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Hyporheic zones (HZs) are reactive transition regions between rivers and aquifers which are thought to play an important role in the attenuation of micropollutants. Micropollutants are chemical substances such as pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals or personal care products that are found in trace concentrations in the environment and that can be harmful to organisms. 3. 23. Dysglycaemia and cardiovascular disease. Aspects on screening, management, and prognosis

    Author : Giulia Ferrannini; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Dysglycaemia, in this thesis defined as impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) or type 2 diabetes (T2DM), is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). International guidelines recommend screening for dysglycaemia and target-driven lifestyle and pharmacological management in people with high cardiovascular (CV) risk or established CVD for both men and women. 4. 24. Functional genomics approaches to dissect causal DNA variations in obesity and type 2 diabetes

    Author : Mi Huang; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; GWAS; Obesity; Type 2 diabetes; CRISPR Cas9; precision medicine; adipocytes; functional genomics;

    Abstract : GWAS studies have identified hundreds of loci that associate with obesity and type 2 diabetes. However, the functional relevance of the genetic variants, and their impact on disease or traits, is largely unknown. READ MORE

  5. 25. Metabolic and endocrine effects of SGLT2 inhibition

    Author : Per Lundkvist; Jan Eriksson; Lars Lind; Maria J Pereira; Michael Alvarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SGLT2 inhibition; GLP-1 receptor agonism; DPP4 inhibition; NAFLD; prediabetes; type 2 diabetes; obesity; metabolic syndrome; glucagon.; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are two growing global health problems with similar comorbidity profiles. SGLT2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) improve blood glucose control and can relieve both T2D and obesity, as well as their associated health problems such as hypertension, kidney failure, and cardiovascular disease.
