  1. 16. Studies of resistance factors against chloroethylnitrosourea drugs in malignant tumor cells

    Author : Suzanne Egyházi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : drug resistance 1; 3-bis 2-chloroethyl -1-nitrosourea O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase glutathione transferase glutathione lung cancer melanoma;

    Abstract : Drug resistance is a major clinical problem in the chemotherapy of tumor diseases and the identification of factors that make tumor cells resistant to drug treatment is therefore of crucial importance. We have investigated a possible involvement of O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT), glutathione transferase (GST) and glutathione (GSH) in the resistance to 1,3- bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea (BCNU) in two human lung cancer cell lines. 2. 17. Genetic aspects on schizophrenia and cerebrospinal fluid monoamine metabolites : focus on association studies with candidate genes

    Author : Erik Jönsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : association study; schizophrenia; DNA polymorphisms; dopamine receptors DRD2; DRD3; DRD4 ; tyrosine hydroxylase; tryptophan hydroxylase; catechol-O-methyltransferase; neurotrophin-3; ciliary neurotrophic factor; healthy subjects; cerebrospinal fluid;

    Abstract : Schizophrenia is a syndrome with psychotic symptoms. The pathogenesis of schizophrenia most likely reflects brain abnormalities and heritable components are present. The principal objective of the present thesis was to investigate some possible genetic influences in the genesis or pathophysiology of schizophrenia. READ MORE

  3. 18. Quantum Chemical Modeling of Enzymatic Methyl Transfer Reactions

    Author : Polina Georgieva; Fahmi Himo; Nino Russo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; reaction mechanism; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, quantum chemistry, in particular the B3LYP density functional method, is used to investigate a number of methyl transfer enzymes. Quantum chemical methodology is today a very important tool in the elucidation of properties and reaction mechanisms of enzyme active sites. READ MORE

  4. 19. Modeling of methyl transfer reactions in S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine dependent enzymes

    Author : Polina Velichkova; Fahmi Himo; Margareta Blomberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi;

    Abstract : A very important trend for studying biomolecules is computational chemistry. In particular, nowadays it is possible to use theoretical methods to figure out the catalytic mechanism of enzyme reactions. READ MORE

  5. 20. Short and long-term regulation of autophagy

    Author : Patricia González-Rodríguez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Autophagy is a conserved catabolic pathway triggered by stress conditions in which portions of the cytoplasm, damage organelles, misfolded proteins and intracellular bacteria are delivered and degraded in the lysosome/vacuoles. Thus, an efficient induction and completion of the process is required to ensure a proper homeostasis of the cell. READ MORE
