  1. 1. Phase Diagrams, Microstructure and Phase Separation in Alkyl Glucoside Systems

    Author : Johan Reimer; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; micellar network; NMR diffusometry; microemulsion; microstructure; phase diagram; phase separation; phase behaviour; alkyl glucoside; sugar surfactant;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work was to study phase diagrams, microstructure and phase separation in alkylglucoside systems. Both alkyl glucoside/water systems and microemulsions with alkyl glucosides have been studied. READ MORE

  2. 2. Complexation between hydrophobically modified polymers and amylose. Gelation and competition by surfactants

    Author : Monica Egermayer; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; rheology; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; inclusion complex; amylose; surfactant; ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose; hydrophobically modified polymer; hydroxyethyl cellulose;

    Abstract : Aqueous mixtures of hydrophobically modified polymers (HMP) with amylose have been investigated by rheology and 1H NMR. Amylose can cross-link HMP chains by forming single-helical inclusion complexes with the hydrophobic side chains of the HMP, leading to thermoreversible, elastic, and thixotropic gels at ambient temperatures. 3. 3. Interaction between Crosslinked Polyelectrolyte Gels and Oppositely Charged Surfactants

    Author : Peter Nilsson; Per Hansson; Ksenija Kogej; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmaceutical chemistry; gel; polyelectrolyte; surfactant; deswelling; kinetics; phase separation; volume transition; ion-exchange; diffusion; liquid crystal; SAXS; cubic Pm3n; Farmaceutisk kemi;

    Abstract : The interactions between anionic, crosslinked gels and cationic surfactants have been investigated. When exposed to oppositely charged surfactant, the gel collapses into a dense complex of polyion and micelles. READ MORE

  4. 4. Aqueous behaviour of characteristic molecules in the synthesis of porous silica materials : - an atomistic description

    Author : Emelie Nilsson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; porous silica; struture directing agents; 29Si-NMR; neutron scattering; empirical potentail structure refinement; micelles;

    Abstract : The formation process of porous silica materials is an intricate process, involving a number of components that interact to form a highly organized material. Both zeolites and mesoporous silica materials typically require the presence of organic structure director agents (SDAs) around which the silica network polymerizes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Properties of modified starches and their use in the surface treatment of paper

    Author : Anna Jonhed; Lars Järnström; Ann-Charlotte Eliasson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Surface treatment of paper; hydrophobically modified starches; temperature-responsive starch; inclusion complexes; barrier properties; Surface engineering; Ytbehandlingsteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : The papermaking industry uses a large amount of starch each year, both as a wet-end additive and as a rheological modifier in surface sizing and coating colors. It is important to be able to reduce the amount of chemicals used in the papermaking and surface treatment process, to reduce costs and to make the process even more efficient. READ MORE
