  1. 16. High-resolution phenotypic profiling of a eukaryotic ribosome

    Author : Jonathan Esguerra; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ribosome; ribosomal protein genes; box C D snoRNA; box H ACA snoRNA; 2’-O-ribose methylation; pseudouridylation; high-resolution phenotypic profiling; chemogenetic profiling; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; rRNA modification;

    Abstract : All living cells contain ribosomes, complex macromolecular assemblies of ribonucleic acid (RNA) and proteins, responsible for synthesizing polypeptides in a process called translation. High-resolution three-dimensional ribosomal structures coupled with biochemical studies have paved the way in understanding the various mechanistic events during protein synthesis. READ MORE

  2. 17. Functional epigenetic analyses in the context of psychiatric health in adolescence

    Author : Diana-Maria Manu; Helgi B. Schiöth; Elena Raffetti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Adolescence is a unique and formative period for learning and developing skills and abilities for adulthood. The prevalence of mental health problems in adolescents is estimated to 10-20%, being a major risk for suicide, social and academic impairments. Suicide is the third leading cause of death in older adolescents (15-19 years). READ MORE

  3. 18. Ultra-sensitive measurements of magnetically labelled RCA products in a microfluidic channel using a high-Tc SQUID

    Author : Sobhan Sepehri; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; diagnostics.; high-Tc SQUID; biosensor; magnetic nanoparticle; rolling circle amplification; magnetic bioassay;

    Abstract : The development of a nucleic acid (deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), ribonucleic acid (RNA)) bioassay based on magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with a high-Tc superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) gradiometer as a magnetic readout is described. The specific binding of the MNPs to the target DNA molecules changes the MNPs size distribution and, therefore, the relaxation dynamics and is measured by magnetic ac susceptometry. READ MORE

  4. 19. PKB/Akt kinase localization and role in stemness maintenance in cancer

    Author : Mayur Vilas Jain; Karin Roberg; Piotr Religa; Mehrdad Rafat; Mahvash Tavassoli; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Cancer incidence rates have increased over the last decade. Currently available therapies are only moderately effective in targeting cancer cells. Established cancer treatment protocols fail to eliminate populations of cancer stem cells (CSCs), which develop resistance against the chemotherapeutic drugs and lead to cancer recurrence. READ MORE

  5. 20. Molecular studies of Wig-1, a p53-induced zinc finger protein

    Author : Cristina Méndez Vidal; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The fact that p53 is one of the most commonly mutated gene in human tumors indicates that it has a key role in tumor suppression. p53 accumulates after DNA-damage and other types of cellular stress, leading to the initiation of a p53-dependent biological response, including cell cycle arrest and apoptosis.
