1. Micro-by-micro interactions : Aggregation dynamics, biofilms, and ecotoxicological impacts of suspended solids
Abstract : Increasing concerns arise regarding the environmental risk of microplastics (MP) and their interactions with biota, prompting numerous effect studies. However, current ecotoxicology methods fall short when it comes to assessing MP impacts. READ MORE

2. Micro-crack initiation and propagation in fiber reinforced composites
Abstract : Predicting micro-damage initiation and evolution is one of the key challenges for safe design of fiber reinforced polymer composites. Micro-scale damage such as, for example, single fiber break may be unnoticeable and negligible during the initial service life of composite, however, with many loading and unloading cycles this initially micro-scale damage may propagate forming macroscopic scale cracks that can significantly reduce the service lifetime or even lead to unforeseen catastrophic failure of the composite structure. 3. The role of microstructure for crack propagation in cortical bone
Abstract : Healthy cortical bone tissue is both tough and strong and has a unique ability to resist fracture. One reason is the hierarchical structure of the tissue where toughening mechanisms at all length scales act to slow down or stop a propagating crack. READ MORE

4. SOD1 prions transmit templated aggregation and fatal ALS-like disease
Abstract : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an adult-onset fatal neurodegenerative disease characterized by a progressive degeneration of the upper and lower motor neurons. The resulting paresis begins focally, usually in one muscle, and spreads contiguously, leading to muscle wasting, progressive paralysis and eventually death. READ MORE

5. Propagation of singularities for pseudo-differential operators and generalized Schrödinger propagators
Abstract : In this thesis we discuss different types of regularity for distributions which appear in the theory of pseudo-differential operators and partial differential equations. Partial differential equations often appear in science and technology. READ MORE
