  1. 1. Flocculation with Polyelectrolytes in Latex and Microbial Systems

    Author : Leif Eriksson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; floc strength; shear sensitivity; fractal dimension; floc structure; patch flocculation; adhesion; bridging; flocculation; charge compensation; adsorption; ionic strength; molecular weight; charge density; Cationic polyelectrolytes; latex; bacteria; activ; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Adsorption of cationic polyelectrolytes onto polystyrene latices was studied as function of polymer chemical composition and molecular weight, polymer and surface charge density and ionic strength. The ratio between polymer charges and surface charges was close to one when distances between polymer and surface charges were equal. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bacillus Cereus. Adhesion Ability to Biological and Non-Biological Surfaces, Enterotoxins, Characterization

    Author : Annika Andersson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : characterization; Bacillus cereus; spores; adhesion; enterotoxin;

    Abstract : The organism investigated in this thesis was Bacillus cereus, which is important as a food spoilage organism and as a pathogen. The adhesion of endospores to and the removal of endospores from siliconized glass surfaces were investigated to increase the knowledge of adhesion mechanisms and to improve the removal of endospores from surfaces. 3. 3. Effect of surface characteristics on cellular adherence and activity

    Author : Marjan Dorkhan; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacteria; microbial biofilm; dental implant; streptococci; oral bacteria; salivary pellicle; early colonizers; titanium oxide; microbial activity; oral keratinocytes; gingival fibroblasts; cell attachment; surface modification; anodic oxidation; anatase;

    Abstract : Ersättning av förlorade tänder med tandimplantat är numera en vanlig behandlingsmetod med generellt goda resultat. Antalet implantatsystem på den internationella marknaden har ökat kraftigt under senare år. READ MORE

  4. 4. Recombinant mucin-type proteins as tools for studies on the interactions between Helicobacter pylori and its carbohydrate receptors

    Author : Yolanda H. Mthembu; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; O-glycans; mucins; glycosyltransferases; Helicobacter pylori; microbial adhesion;

    Abstract : Glycan-protein interactions are important in pathogen adhesion and infections. H. pylori has adhesins which enables it to bind to glycans on the gastric mucosa and, in the long run, cause gastric cancer. The reported current antibiotic regimen used in the treatment to eradicate H. READ MORE

  5. 5. Biofilm adhesion on silicone materials

    Author : Sevil Atarijabarzadeh; KTH; []

    Abstract : Silicone composite high voltage insulators are sometimes contaminated by microorganisms in outdoor applications, which results in the insulator becoming conductive and thereafter failure of the insulators. In this work, it has been tried to develop silicone materials with antimicrobial properties. READ MORE
