  1. 21. 4-chlorophenol biodegradation by Arthrobacter chlorophenolicus A6

    Author : Karolina Nordin; Janet Jansson; Lawrence P. Wackett; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : A microorganism was isolated which could grow on unusually high concentrations of the toxic pollutant 4-chlorophenol. Taxonomic studies showed that the microorganism constituted a novel species within the genus Arthrobacter and it was named Arthrobacter chlorophenolicus A6. A. READ MORE

  2. 22. Unravelling the feeding habits of fungivores : interactions between soil fauna and ectomycorrhizal fungi

    Author : Cecilia Remén; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The aim of this project was to investigate and clarify the feeding habits of fungivorous soil fauna, with the overall objective of improving our understanding of their functional roles in the ecosystem. Special focus was given to symbiotic ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungi, that, owing to their abundance and diversity, are considered to constitute an important food source for fungivorous soil fauna and may be a factor regulating these faunal communities. 3. 23. The use of molecular markers for identifying species diversity and functional variation of ectomycorrhizal fungi

    Author : Jenny Hedh; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ectomycorrhiza; molecular markers; Paxillus involutus; ITS region; phylogenetic species; host compatibility; gene expression; CGH;

    Abstract : Ectomycorrhiza (EM) is a symbiosis between soil living fungi and the roots of woody plants. EM fungal communities are important in forest nutrient cycling, they are species rich and their structures vary between habitats and over time. READ MORE

  4. 24. Denitrification as an adaptive trait in soil and groundwater bacteria

    Author : Christer Bergwall; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microcosm; forest soil; aquifer; groundwater; reductase; nitrous oxide; nitric oxide; nitrite; nitrate; selection; adaptation; bacteria; nitrification; Denitrification; dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium; fertiliser; 15NO3-; 15NH4 ; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Abstract : The focus of the thesis is on selection and adaptation processes in bacteria with emphasis on denitrifying bacteria in groundwater. Other nitrogen transformation processes such as dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium (nitrate ammonification) and nitrification of forest soil bacteria are briefly discussed. READ MORE

  5. 25. Inorganic chemistry of phosphorus cycling in fresh and marine waters

    Author : Anneli Gunnars; René Gätcher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; strukturkemi; Structural Chemistry;

    Abstract : In the present Thesis, new results are reported on critical chemical mechanisms controlling the cycling of phosphorus in aquatic environments. These findings have implications for several fields of earth system sciences, including large-scale global change, both Recent and in older geological periods. READ MORE
