  1. 1. Studies on Peripheral Nerve Regeneration: Microdispensing, Neurite Guidance and Galectins

    Author : Per Gustavsson; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; vävnadskultur; histokemi; cytokemi; Histologi; tissue culture; histochemistry; cytochemistry; Histology; Schwann cells; sciatic nerve; dorsal root ganglia; DRG; neurite guidance; galectins; inkjet; microdispensing; peripheral nervous system; nerve regeneration; Animal physiology; Djurfysiologi; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The present thesis describes development of a microdispenser-based technique to create of protein patterns for neurite guidance. The same technique was also developed to allow direct positioning of dissociated cells, including neurons, on cell culture substrates. Finally the role of galectin-3 and 8 during nerve regeneration was investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sample Handling Techniques in Biological and Environmental Applications Emphasizing Biomolecular Recognition and MALDI-TOF MS

    Author : Patrik Önnerfjord; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; protein identification; microchip IMER; microdispensing; MALDI-TOF MS; fluorescence polarization; flow immunoassay; pesticide immunoassays; phenol biosensor; restricted access media; SPE; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The use of restricted access media and other stationary phases for clean-up and trace enrichment of environmental samples coupled on-line to liquid chromatography using diode array detection as well as thermospray MS is described. This on-line configuration was compared with commercially available ELISAs for the determination of triazines in complex matrices, showing superior precision and accuracy with the chromatographic method. 3. 3. High-Pressure Microfluidics

    Author : Sam Ogden; Klas Hjort; Greger Thornell; Wouter van der Wijngaart; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : phase change; actuator; valve; pump; supercritical fluid; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrosystemteknik; Engineering Science with specialization in Microsystems Technology;

    Abstract : In this thesis, some fundamentals and possible applications of high-pressure microfluidics have been explored. Furthermore, handling fluids at high pressures has been addressed, specifically by creating and characterizing strong microvalves and pumps.A variety of microstructuring techniques was used to realize these microfluidic devices, e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biochip design based on tailored ethylene glycols

    Author : Andréas Larsson (Kaiser); Bo Liedberg; Tommy Nylander; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biosensor; biochip; poly ethylene glycol ; self-assembled monolayer; photopolymerisation; microarray; biomolecular interaction; explosives detection; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Studies of biomolecular interactions are of interest for several reasons. Beside basic research, the knowledge gained from such studies is also very valuable in for example drug target identification. Medical care is another area where biomolecules may be used as biomarkers to aid physicians in making correct diagnosis. READ MORE

  5. 5. A Biotechnology Perspective on Silicon Nanowire FETs for Biosensor Applications

    Author : Nima Jokilaakso; Amelie Eriksson Karlström; Christer Wingren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The study of silicon nanowire-FET-based electronic biosensor applications is an emerging scientific field. These biosensors have the benefit of being theoretically extremely sensitive and reports of down to femtomolar (fM) levels of biomolecule detection have been reported. READ MORE
