  2. 2. Interphases in Polymer Blends

    Author : Hans Eklind; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; morphology; interdiffusion; compatibilization; characterization; interfacial interaction; mobility; micromechanical transition; dynamic mechanical properties; interphase; polymer blend;

    Abstract : The blending of polymers is a useful means of combining and improving the properties of already existing polymers in the development of new materials at reasonable cost. As most polymers are immiscible with each other, heterogeneous blends are often formed. The properties of such blends are strongly determined by the properties of the interphase. READ MORE

  3. 3. Micromechanical modeling of cleavage fracture in polycrystalline materials

    Author : Mateusz Stec; Jonas Faleskog; Andre Pineau; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cleavage fracture; probabilistic modeling; brittle to ductile transition; cohesive zone; visco-plastic material; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik; Other technology; Övriga teknikvetenskaper;

    Abstract : Cleavage fracture in ferritic steels can be defined as a sequence of few critical steps. At first nucleation of a microcrack takes place, often in a hard inclusion. This microcrack then propagates into the surrounding matrix material. The last obstacle before failure is the encounter of grain boundaries. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanical properties of sound and of deteriorated softwood at different length scales : Poromicromechanical modeling and experimental investigations

    Author : Thomas K. Bader; Karin Hofstetter; Kristofer Gamstedt; Austria Vienna University of Technology; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : Due to its natural origin and its inherent heterogeneities, mechanical properties of wood are highly anisotropic and show a broad variability, not only between different wood species, but also within a tree. Similar to other biological materials, the wood mi- crostructure is well organized and hierarchically structured from the annual rings visible to the naked eye down to the wood polymers cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin at the nanometer-scale. 5. 5. The effect of stress state in ductile failure

    Author : Imad Barsoum; Jonas Faleskog; Viggo Tvergaard; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ductile failure; Rupture mechanisms; Stress triaxiality; Lode parameter; Finite element analysis; Experiments; Localization; Micromechanics; Void growth; Void coalescence; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : The industrial application of high strength steels in structural components has increased the demand on understanding the ductile failure behavior of this type of materials. In practical situations the loading experienced on components made out of these materials can be very complex, which may affect the failure behavior. READ MORE
