  1. 1. The role of MTH1 in ultraviolet radiation-induced mutagenesis

    Author : Asal Fotouhi; Siamak Haghdoost; Harry Vrieling; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ultraviolet radiation; MTH1; reactive oxygen species; 8-oxo-dGTP; 2-OH-dATP; micronucleus; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is known to be highly mutagenic. What types of DNA lesions that are induced by different UVR wavelengths are still a matter of debate. UVR induces mutagenesis mostly by the formation of photoproducts and the induction of reactive oxygen species (ROS). READ MORE

  2. 2. The effect on chromosomal stability of some dietary constituents

    Author : Louise Durling; Per Eriksson; Jan Alexander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biology; Genotoxicity; chromosomal stability; heterocyclic amines; furan; HMF; folic acid; micronucleus test; comet assay; Biologi;

    Abstract : When food is heated, a vast number of compounds are formed. Some of these are known to be toxic. Among these are furan, HMF, PhIP, IQ, and MeIQx, the subjects of this thesis. All these compounds are known or suspected carcinogens but the detailed mechanisms behind their carcinogenicity have not yet been fully examined. READ MORE

  3. 3. Chromosome aberrations detected by the flow cytometer based micronucleus assay : studies of rodent erythrocytes after exposure to very low doses of ionizing radiation or to chemicals

    Author : Lilianne Abramsson Zetterberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  4. 4. Occurrence and ecotoxicity of endocrine disruptor chemicals in aquatic environment and sewage treatment systems

    Author : Andre Luis de Sa Salomao; Marcia Marques; Paulo Sergio Martins Carvalho; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Endocrine disruption; Alkali-labile phosphate; Estrogen hormones; Oreochromis niloticus; Unicellular green microalgae; Additive effect; Less-than additive effect; Chronic toxicity; Natural Science; Naturvetenskap;

    Abstract : The applicability of one selected method for indirect measurement of vitellogenin (Vtg) in fish plasma based on the quantification of alkali-labile phosphates (ALP method) to assess estrogenicity in water was investigated. The ALP method applied in this investigation was originally developed with Carassius carassius (Crucian carps). READ MORE

  5. 5. Biomarkers of ionising radiation relevant to carcinogenesis : Dose, dose rate and LET dependency of the responses

    Author : Milagrosa López Riego; Andrzej Wojcik; Lovisa Lundholm; Alexandros G. Georgakilas; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ionising radiation; low dose; low dose rate; linear energy transfer LET ; mixed beams; dose and dose rate effectiveness factor DDREF ; cancer; DNA damage response; biomarkers; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : A better understanding of the relationship between ionising radiation (IR) dose, dose rate and radiation quality, and the risk of stochastic effects would improve risk extrapolation from atomic bomb survivors’ data. Owing to insufficient statistical power of epidemiological studies to detect excess incidence of cancer following low doses of IR delivered at low dose rates (LDLDR), as typically encountered in most common human exposure scenarios, radiobiological experiments are fundamental to describe the biological effectiveness of LDLDR and to define the underlying molecular mechanisms.
