  1. 1. High-resolution characterization of TiN diffusion barrier layers

    Author : Marlene Mühlbacher; Lars Hultman; Christian Mitterer; Lars Johnson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diffusion; TiN; Microstructure; Transmission electron microscopy; TEM; Atom probe tomography; APT;

    Abstract : Titanium nitride (TiN) films are widely applied as diffusion barrier layers in microelectronic devices. The continued miniaturization of such devices not only poses new challenges to material systems design, but also puts high demands on characterization techniques. READ MORE

  2. 2. On Thermal Conductivity and Strength in Compacted Graphite Irons : Influence of Temperature and Microstructure

    Author : Martin Selin; Ingvar L. Svensson; Attila Diószegi; Steve Dawson; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Compacted Graphite Iron; Thermal Conductivity; Mechanical Properties; Hardness; Microstructure; Plastic Deformation; Hollomon Equation; Elevated Temperature; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Thermal conductivity, hardness and strength are all highly important material properties, affecting the performance and life expectancy of components operating at elevated temperatures. The main purpose of this work has been to increase the knowledge and understanding concerning how mechanical and physical properties are affected by temperature and microstructure in compacted graphite irons. 3. 3. Microstructure of Cermets

    Author : Per Lindahl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thermodynamic; microchemistry; N ; AP-FIM; Ti C; cutting tools; SEM; cemented carbide; TEM; sintering;

    Abstract : The microstructure of several TiC-TiN-Mo2C-WC-Co/Ni model alloys and a commercial (Ti,Ta,W,Mo)(C,N)-(Co,Ni) type cermet was studied using x-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, analytical electron microscopy and atom probe field ion microscopy. In addition thermodynamical calculations were made in order to understand the development of the microstructure during sintering. READ MORE

  4. 4. Microstructural investigation of CVD TiAlN, TiN and WN coatings

    Author : Ren Qiu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEM; XEDS; TiN; SEM; APT; TiAlN; coating growth; EBSD; WN; CVD;

    Abstract : High speed machining of workpiece materials puts extreme thermal and pressure loads onto the cutting tool inserts, which thus must possess both high hardness and good toughness. Nowadays, most cutting tools are made of cemented carbide substrates that are coated with wear-resistant coatings. READ MORE

  5. 5. Tin whiskers: experiments and modelling

    Author : Johan Hektor; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tin whiskers; Intermetallics; Phase field models; X-Ray Diffraction;

    Abstract : Tin whiskers are hair-like single crystals that spontaneously grow from tin-coated surfaces. Whiskers are commonly found in electronic components, where tin coatings are used in, e.g., soldering applications, and to protect components from corrosion. READ MORE
