  1. 1. Micromachined Microwave Sensors for Non-Invasive Skin Cancer Diagnostics

    Author : Fritzi Töpfer; Joachim Oberhammer; Lennart Emtestam; Milica Popovic; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microwave probe; microwave sensor; skin cancer diagnostics; malignant melanoma; microwave reflectometry; non-invasive diagnostics; micromachining; dielectric-rod waveguide; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Malignant melanoma is one of the cancers with the highest incident rates. It is also the most dangerous skin cancer type and an early diagnosis is crucial for the successful treatment of malignant melanoma patients. READ MORE

  2. 2. Microwave Transistor Noise Model Extraction Methods and a Non-Contacting Scattering Parameter Measurement Method

    Author : Jörgen Stenarson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : extraction; S-parameter; noise parameter; vector network analyzer; electro-magnetic probe; microwave; non-contacting testing; transistor noise model; VNA; EM-probe; non-invasive testing;

    Abstract : This thesis has two parts. The first part discuss noise model extraction methods for FETs. The second part describe theory and implementation of a non-contacting S-parameter measurement method. Noise is an important aspect for a circuit designer, because noise generated in the circuit is a sensitivity limiting factor. READ MORE

  3. 3. High Temperature Superconducting and Tunable Ferroelectric Microwave Devices

    Author : Erik F. Carlsson; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : varactors; tunable microwave circuits; conformal mapping; cryogenic probe station; ferroelectrics; high temperature superconductors; microwave circuits; narrow-band filters; phase-shifter;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses some applications of High Temperature Superconductors (HTS) and ferroelectric materials in tunable microwave devices and circuits. The work is divided into three main areas: i) modeling of multilayered structures including ferroelectric layers, ii) realization and characterization of tunable coplanar waveguides (CPW), capacitors and resonators based on ferroelectrics, and iii) an investigation of microstrip HTS K-band filters. 5. 5. Microwave dressing of a trapped strontium Rydberg ion

    Author : Fabian Pokorny; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : Trapped Rydberg ions are a novel platform for quantum technologies, envisaged to combine the excellent control of trapped ions with the strong interactions found in neutral Rydberg atom systems. While in recent years trapped ions have been coherently excited to Rydberg states and were shown to be stable in the trapping field, strongly interacting trapped Rydberg ions have yet to be realized.
