  2. 7. From the migrations of herders and farmers to the colonial era and the modern-day : Genetic inferences on African demographic history

    Author : Rickard Hammarén; Mattias Jakobsson; Carina Schlebusch; Torsten Günther; Luca Pagani; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; admixture; African demography; human evolutionary genetics; population structure; sex-biased admixture; Africa; population genetics; Biology with Specialisation in Human Evolution and Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot människans evolution och genetik;

    Abstract : Africa is the birthplace of the human species and home to great linguistic, cultural, and genetic diversity. Despite this, the genetics of the peoples of the continent remains understudied. In this thesis, I apply population genetic approaches, to contribute to the knowledge of human demographic history in Africa. READ MORE

  3. 8. Late Weichselian and early Holocene changes of vegetation, climate and sea level on the Skagi peninsula, northern Iceland

    Author : Mats Rundgren; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; asthenosphere viscosity; glacial loading unloading; marine polar front migrations; sea-level change; climate change; vegetation change; Early Holocene; Late Weichselian; Iceland; Lake sediments; Skagi peninsula; Geology; physical geography; Geologi; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : Sediment sequences from five lakes on the Skagi peninsula, northern Iceland, were subjected to mineral magnetic analysis, carbon analysis, pollen analysis, plant macrofossil analysis, diatom analysis, radiocarbon dating and tephra analysis in order to make detailed reconstructions of vegetation, climate and sea level during the Late Weichselian and Early Holocene. The main purpose was to investigate if the dramatic deglacial climatic shifts recorded in proxy records from the North Atlantic region, such as ice cores, marine sediments and lake sediments, also are registered in Skagi lake sediments, which would be expected considering Iceland´s position in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, within the range of the Late Weichselian–Early Holocene migrations of the marine polar front. 4. 9. An Empirical Investigation of Microservices-based Software Architectures from a Socio-Technical Perspective

    Author : Hamdy Michael Ayas; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Software Architecture Transitions; Grounded Theory; Software Architecture; Microservices; Mining Software Repositories; Socio-technical systems;

    Abstract : Background: As software systems grow, software organizations turn towards Microservices-based Software Architectures (MSAs) seeking modularity, service orientation, and cloud-based software delivery. Microservices are a way of structuring software systems into loosely coupled pieces that: 1) are developed and operated independently, 2) communicate and integrate with each other to compose a system, and 3) each piece has its individual business domain and resources. Abstract : Tortuguero National Park in Costa Rica hosts nesting by four species of highly migratory and endangered sea turtles (green, hawksbill, leatherback and loggerhead turtles). Sea turtle research at Tortuguero has been continuous since Dr. Archie Carr began studies in the 1950?s. READ MORE
