  1. 1. Microstructural, Mechanical and Tribological Characterisation of CVD and PVD Coatings for Metal Cutting Applications

    Author : Mikael Fallqvist; Staffan Jacobsson; Mikael Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Tribology; Friction; Wear; Coatings; CVD; PVD; Alumina; Metal cutting; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials; Steel Forming and Surface Engineering;

    Abstract : The present thesis focuses on characterisation of microstructure and the resulting mechanical and tribological properties of CVD and PVD coatings used in metal cutting applications. These thin and hard coatings are designed to improve the tribological performance of cutting tools which in metal cutting operations may result in improved cutting performance, lower energy consumption, lower production costs and lower impact on the environment. 2. 2. Protein folding studies of human superoxide dismutase and ALS associated mutants

    Author : Mikael Lindberg; Mikael Oliveberg; Jane Clarke; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; superoxide dismutase; ALS; protein folding; equilibrium titration; protein stability; apo protein; disulphide bridge; chevron plot; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Proteins are among the most abundant biological macromolecules. The cellular machinery is coupled to exact structural shape and properties of the more than 100 000 different proteins. Still, proteins can sometimes completely change their character and as a result trigger neuro degenerative disease. READ MORE

  3. 3. Protein–DNA Recognition : In Vitro Evolution and Characterization of DNA-Binding Proteins

    Author : Mikael Nilsson; Mikael Widersten; Dan Tawfik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; In vitro evolution; Phage display; mRNA display; Cro; DNA recognition; repressor; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : DNA-recognizing proteins are involved in a multitude of important life-processes. Therefore, it is of great interest to understand the underlying mechanisms that set the rules for sequence specific protein–DNA interactions. Previous attempts aiming to resolve these interactions have been focused on naturally occurring systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Naturalizing God? : A Critical Evaluation of Religious Naturalism

    Author : Sven Mikael Leidenhag; Mikael Stenmark; Niels Henrik Gregersen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Religious naturalism; naturalism; science and religion; emergence theory; panentheism; panpsychism; theism; Willem Drees; Charley Hardwick; Ursula Goodenough; Karl Peters; Gordon Kaufman; Stuart Kauffman; Loyal Rue; pragmatism; eco-ethics; eco-theology.; Religionsfilosofi; Philosophy of Religion;

    Abstract : This thesis seeks to critically evaluate religious naturalism as a position in the dialogue between science and religion. I seek to explicate the major topics of debate within religious naturalism (chapter 2), as well as the naturalistic and religious aspects of religious naturalism. READ MORE

  5. 5. Testing and Evaluation of Interfibre Joint Strength under Mixed-Mode Loading

    Author : Mikael S. Magnusson; Sören Östlund; Lars Wågberg; Mikael Nygårds; Kristofer Gamstedt; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; interfibre joint; fibre-fibre bonding; paper strength;

    Abstract : The failure properties of interfibre bonds are the key for the build-up of strength in fibrous materials such as paper and paperboard. In order to tailor the properties of such materials by chemical or mechanical treatments and to learn how such modifications influence the properties at a microscopic level, direct measurement of individual fibre--fibre crosses are typically performed.
