1. Finite element approximation of the deterministic and the stochastic Cahn-Hilliard equation
Abstract : This thesis consists of three papers on numerical approximation of the Cahn-Hilliard equation. The main part of the work is concerned with the Cahn-Hilliard equation perturbed by noise, also known as the Cahn-Hilliard-Cook equation. READ MORE

2. Self Assembly of Hardwood Xylan -In Aqueous Solution and at Cellulosic Surfaces
Abstract : The climate change on our planet is an issue of great concern. The dignity of this issue was confirmed by the award of the international panel of climate change (IPCC) the Nobel peace prize. This problem arises from the way that we live our lives, how we produce energy, materials and chemicals from a fossil source. READ MORE

3. Soil and stream water chemistry in a boreal catchment - interactions, influences of dissolved organic matter and effects of wood ash application
Abstract : Two small bordering catchments in Bispgården, Central Sweden, wereinvestigated in regard to soil solution and stream water chemistry during the frostfree seasons of 2003-2007. Both catchments were drained by first order streams,Fanbergsbäcken and Gråbergsbäcken, and in Fanbergsbäckens catchment anextensive investigation of the soil and soil solution chemistry was conducted bylysimeter and centrifugation sampling. 4. Development of Mild Methods for Selective Covalent Functionalization of Graphene
Abstract : This thesis discusses methods for the comparatively mild covalent functionalization of graphene. Several graphene models were investigated: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-graphene on SiO2/Si substrate, graphite foil, graphite flakes, kish graphite and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite. 5. Design and Synthesis of Potential Aminoacyl-tRNA Synthetase Inhibitors
Abstract : Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) are essential enzymes present in all living organisms, their catalytic activity is involved in the translation of the genetic code into functional proteins and they are potential targets for anti-infective agents. The first step in the biosynthetic pathway catalysed by aaRSs consists of activation of the corresponding amino acid by the reaction with ATP to form an aminoacyl-adenylate (aa-AMP), the key intermediate in the biosynthesis of proteins.
