  1. 1. Multidisciplinary Near-Surface Investigation of a Quick-Clay Landslide Prone Area in Southwest Sweden

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Silvia Salas Romero; Uppsala universitet.; [2019]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Quick-clay; reflection seismic; landslide; southwest Sweden; borehole logging; physico-chemical properties; hydrogeological modelling; multichannel analysis of surface waves; magnetics; Geofysik med inriktning mot fasta jordens fysik; Geophysics with specialization in Solid Earth Physics;

    Abstract : Quick-clay landslides are considered one of the most important geohazards in Sweden, Norway, and Canada. The deposits involved are glacial and postglacial clays and silty clays, which are very sensitive to increased stress that may collapse their structure and cause liquefaction. READ MORE

  2. 2. Environmental history in southern Mozambique Reconstruction of flooding events, hydroclimate and sea-level dynamics since mid-Holocene

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Physical Geography, Stockholm University

    Author : Sandra Raúl Sitoe; Stockholms universitet.; [2017]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Southern Africa; Limpopo River floodplain; flooding event; sea-level change; climate change; diatoms; phytoliths; mineral magnetics; grain-size; radiocarbon dating; Quaternary Geology; kvartärgeologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis has been to reconstruct paleoenvironment, paleohydrology and paleoclimate in coastal southern Mozambique, with emphasis on tracing past flooding events on the lower Limpopo River floodplain. In order to extend flood chronologies beyond periods covered by instrumental data, sediments from lakes on the floodplain were studied (Lake Lungué, Coassane Oxbow, Lake Magandane and Lake Soane). Abstract : A new palaeoenvironmental record of the post-glacial history of the southern Baltic Sea (~14 ka to present) is presented. During this period, large water level and salinity changes occurred in the Baltic Basin due to opening and closing of connections to the North Atlantic. READ MORE
