1. Renal Klotho in mineral metabolism
Abstract : Calcium and phosphorous are critical elements in a number of physiological processes, including maintenance of bone structure, cell signaling and energy metabolism. Their endocrine regulation is tightly controlled through a number of feedback mechanisms involving parathyroid hormone (PTH), vitamin D and the recently discovered fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23). 2. Bone Metabolism in Men
Abstract : In this thesis, the importance of the growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like growth factor (IGF) system and sex steroids for male bone metabolism has been investigated, and the effects of continuous low dose GH replacement in GH deficient (GHD) adults. In a population-based sample of men, positive correlations were found between bone mineral density (BMD) and IGF-I, IGF-II, IGF binding protein (IGFBP)-3 and the testosterone/sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) ratio. 3. Bone alkaline phosphatase isoforms in chronic kidney disease : mineral and bone disorder
Abstract : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with increased mortality and cardiovascular complications. Disturbances in mineral metabolism occur early In study I we identified the novel BALP isoform Blx in 20% of patients with mild to moderate CKD. READ MORE

4. Osteoprotegerin in Bone Metabolism
Abstract : Bone turnover, remodeling, is a constant process replacing old bone with new. This complex cellular event involves resorption by osteoclasts and formation of new bone by osteoblasts. The balance between osteoblastic and osteoclastic activity is under regulation by several endocrine and paracrine factors. READ MORE

5. Carbohydrate Levels and Fructan Metabolism in Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Leaves : effects of manipulating mineral nutrition and photosynthesis
Abstract : Carbohydrate levels and fructan metabolism were studied in the leaves of barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Agneta) plants subjected to phosphorous (P)-deficiency, nitrogen (N)-deficiency and N-resupply following the N-deficiency. READ MORE
