  1. 11. Understanding Zircon Geochronology - Constraints from Imaging and Trace Elements

    Author : Andrius Rimsa; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrothermal; Petrology; mineralogy; hydraulic fracturing; Sveconorwegian; incipient charnockite; EBSD; cathodoluminescence; REE; Zircon; U-Pb geochronology; geochemistry; Petrologi; mineralogi; geokemi; Kerala Khondalite Belt;

    Abstract : Formation of incipient charnockite in Söndrum, SW Sweden and the Kerala Khondalite Belt (KKB), S. India is accompanied by zircon growth. The age of the dehydration event is constrained by dating newly formed zircon to 1397±4 Ma (2?, MSWD=1.7) in Söndrum and ca. READ MORE

    Abstract : New results are presented from the investigation of relative sea-level changes in the Nanortalik and Qaqortoq-Narsarsuaq areas in SW Greenland from c. 11 000 cal. years BP to the present. READ MORE

  3. 13. Geochemical and sedimentary signatures of Phanerozoic events

    Author : Jane Wigforss-Lange; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geokemi; Sedimentology; Petrology; mineralogy; geochemistry; Petrologi; mineralogi; Carbon and oxygen isotopes; Jurassic-Cretaceous boundary; K-T boundary; Late Silurian; Events; Trace elements; Sedimentologi;

    Abstract : Geological and biological catastrophic events have occurred repeatedly in the Earth's history, leaving traces in the global stratigraphical record in the form of sedimentary features, geochemical anomalies and biotic turnovers. This thesis focuses on the sedimentological and geochemical signatures of several key events in the Phanerozoic stratigraphical record, and aims to interpret the different signals and the causal mechanisms behind each of these events. 4. 14. Characterising volcanic magma plumbing systems : A tool to improve eruption forecasting at hazardous volcanoes

    Author : David A. Budd; Valentin Troll; Tod Waight; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma plumbing; oxygen isotopes; thermobarometry; crustal assimilation; Katla; Merapi; Kelud; Toba; volcanic hazards; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : This thesis attempts to develop our understanding of volcanic magma plumbing systems and the magmatic processes that operate within them, such as fractional crystallisation, crustal partial melting, assimilation, and magma mixing. I utilise petrology, rock and mineral geochemistry, and isotope systematics to seek to improve our ability to forecast the eruptive frequency and style of active volcanoes, an aspect often lacking in current volcano monitoring efforts. 5. 15. Magma plumbing architecture in Indonesia and the North Atlantic Igneous Province

    Author : Börje Dahrén; Valentin R Troll; Abigail K. Barker; Steffi Burchardt; Ben Ellis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magma plumbing; geothermobarometry; plagioclase; clinopyroxene; magma-crust interaction; hazard mitigation; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot mineralogi; petrologi och tektonik; Earth Science with specialization in Mineral Chemistry; Petrology and Tectonics;

    Abstract : Magma plumbing systems represent the physical framework of magma transport and storage from the source region in the mantle, through the crust, until reaching the surface in a volcanic eruption. Characterising the different aspects of magma plumbing, in particular the distribution of magma storage zones throughout the crust, is of key importance to better understand the behaviour of individual volcanoes.
