    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kartografi; klimatologi; Geofysik; fysisk oceanografi; physical oceanography; meteorology; Sedimentologi; Stratigrafi; Stratigraphy; Baltic Sea; geokemi; Petrologi; mineralogi; geochemistry; mineralogy; Petrology; greigite; mineral magnetics; sea-level changes; Holocene; Littorina transgression; geomorphology; pedology; cartography; climatology; meteorologi; Geophysics; Sedimentology; Optically Stimulated Luminescence OSL ; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; Physical geography;

    Abstract : A new palaeoenvironmental record of the post-glacial history of the southern Baltic Sea (~14 ka to present) is presented. During this period, large water level and salinity changes occurred in the Baltic Basin due to opening and closing of connections to the North Atlantic. READ MORE

  2. 17. The mobility of natural uranium at Forsmark, Sweden, through geologic time

    Author : Lindsay Krall; Carl-Magnus Mörth; David Read; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uranium; radium; mineralogy; geochronology; submarine groundwater discharge; spent nuclear fuel; geochemical modelling; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the response of uranium minerals and poorly crystalline phases to changes in geochemical conditions through geological time has been assessed in order to understand the mobility of natural uranium in the fracture network of a proposed site for a spent nuclear fuel repository in Forsmark, Sweden. Identification and characterization of solid phase uranium have been performed through electron microprobe analysis and optical petrography (Article I). READ MORE

  3. 18. Caleacte : Production and Exchange in a North Sicilian Town c. 500 BC-500 AD

    Abstract : The study deals with the ancient town of Caleacte, modern Caronia, on the north coast of Sicily. Information provided by ancient textual sources, epigraphy and archaeology on the economic conditions and framework of the site and its micro-region are presented in the first chapter. READ MORE

  4. 19. Understanding Zircon Geochronology - Constraints from Imaging and Trace Elements

    Author : Andrius Rimsa; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrothermal; Petrology; mineralogy; hydraulic fracturing; Sveconorwegian; incipient charnockite; EBSD; cathodoluminescence; REE; Zircon; U-Pb geochronology; geochemistry; Petrologi; mineralogi; geokemi; Kerala Khondalite Belt;

    Abstract : Formation of incipient charnockite in Söndrum, SW Sweden and the Kerala Khondalite Belt (KKB), S. India is accompanied by zircon growth. The age of the dehydration event is constrained by dating newly formed zircon to 1397±4 Ma (2?, MSWD=1.7) in Söndrum and ca. READ MORE

  5. 20. Influence of heat on the physical and mechanical properties of selected rock types

    Author : Christine Saiang; Karl-Johan Loorents; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tunnel fires; heat influences; temperature increase; mechanical properties; physical properties; micro cracks; mineralogy; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och berganläggningsteknik;

    Abstract : Impelled by the increase in the number of tunnel fires in the last decade alone, wide spread attention has been drawn towards tunnel fire safety studies. Many of these fires occurred in road and railway tunnels involving vehicles and trains. READ MORE
