  1. 11. Interphase cytogenetics and cytokine therapy in myelodysplastic syndromes and acute myeloid leukemia

    Author : Per Bernell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : myelodysplastic syndromes; acute myeloid leukemia; FISH; clonality; lineageinvolvement; minimal residual disease; EIPO; GM-CSF.;

    Abstract : Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) comprise a group of clonal hematopoietic bone marrow cell disorders, characterized by a variable degree of anemia, granulocytopenia and/or thrombocytopenia and with a substantial risk of transformation to acute myeloid leukemia (MDS-AML). In the present thesis a method based on fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) was developed which allows cytogenetic studies on morphological identified peripheral blood and bone marrow cells (MGG/FISH). 2. 12. Neuroblastoma incidence, biology and outcome : with special emphasis on quantitative analysis of tyrosine hydroxylase mRNA in blood and bone marrow

    Author : Catarina Träger; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Neuroblastoma, the most common malignant disease of early childhood, accounts for 6% of childhood malignancies but is responsible for 9% of paediatric cancer related deaths. The tumour originates from cells in the neural crest and has a very heterogeneous clinical course. READ MORE

  3. 13. Prognostic factors, treatment and outcome in adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia : Population-based studies in Sweden

    Author : Piotr Kozlowski; Helene Hallböök; Maria Åström; Anita W. Rijneveld; Örebro universitet; []

    Abstract : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) has poor prognosis in older/elderly adults and in high-risk/relapsed disease. Recommended treatment of ALL was evaluated (study I-IV). Data was obtained from the Swedish Acute Leukemia registries and from patient records.I. READ MORE

    Abstract : Precursor lymphoid neoplasms, namely acute lymphoblastic leukemias (ALL) and lymphoblastic lymphomas (LBL), are characterized by an aggressive proliferation of malignant progenitor B- or T-cells. To improve risk classification at diagnosis, better prognostic and treatment stratifying biomarkers are needed. READ MORE

  5. 15. Molecular monitoring of engraftment and leukemia relapse after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

    Author : Jonas Mattsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Relapse of the underlying disease, graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) and infections are the main complications after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). A lower tumor burden increases the likelihood of cure after both chemotherapy and HSCT. READ MORE
