  1. 21. Sediment transport from source to sink in the Lake Baikal basin : Impacts of hydroclimatic change and mining

    Author : Jan Pietroń; Jerker Jarsjö; Enrica Viparelli; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sediment transport; human impact; hydroclimatic change; surface mining; metal-enriched sediment; Lake Baikal; the Selenga River; the Selenga Delta; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Different magnitude, intensity and timing of precipitation can impact runoff, hillslope erosion and transport of sediment along river channels.  Human activities, such as dam construction and surface mining can also considerably influence transport of sediment and sediment-bound contaminants. 2. 22. Mining induced seismicity in Sweden

    Author : Kristina Larsson; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och Berganläggningsteknik;

    Abstract : The virgin stress state in the rock mass is disturbed by mining, which leads to locally increased or decreased stresses. The rock mass in Sweden is generally composed of high strength brittle rock types, so the risk of seismicity and rockbursts (violent failures) increase with increasing depth of mining due to increasing stress levels. 3. 23. Footwall stability in SLC mining

    Author : Mikael Svartsjaern; David Saiang; Andreas Eitzenberger; Doug Stead; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Mining and Rock Engineering; Gruv- och Berganläggningsteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on a case study of the Kiirunavaara sublevel cave (SLC) mine. It focuses on footwall stability and damage development in the mining infrastructure on mine scale. Damage to the infrastructure is mappable for the full height of the footwall by access through decommissioned infrastructure associated with earlier mining stages. READ MORE

  4. 24. Mining Mozambique Health Data : The Case of Malaria: From Bayesian Incidence Risk to Incidence Case Predictions

    Author : Orlando P. Zacarias; Henrik Boström; Mats Danielson; Niklas Lavesson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : The health sector in Mozambique is piled with data, holding records of major public health diseases, such as malaria, cholera, etc. The process of scrutinizing such a mass of health data for useful information is challenging but essential for the health authorities and professionals. 5. 25. Algorithms in data mining : reduced rank regression and classification by tensor methods

    Author : Berkant Savas; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK;

    Abstract : In many fields of science, engineering, and economics large amounts of data are stored and there is a need to analyze these data in order to extract information for various purposes. Data mining is a general concept involving different tools for performing this kind of analysis. READ MORE
