  1. 1. Economic perspectives on the obesity epidemic

    Author : Åsa Ljungvall; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Obesity; body-mass index; BMI; waist circumference; inequality; socioeconomic inequalities; concentration index; socioeconomic disparities; time trends; economic freedom; misreporting; misclassification;

    Abstract : This thesis takes its starting point in the large spread and rise in obesity prevalence that have been observed around the world, making obesity an increasing public health concern. The thesis consists of an introductory chapter, which justifies the study of obesity from economic perspectives and puts the subsequent studies in context, and four studies that address obesity from different economic perspectives. 2. 2. Contributions to generalized Wilcoxon rank tests

    Author : Marie-Louise Öhman; Hans Nyquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Censored data rank sum tests; Gehan s test; Generalized Wilcoxon test; Jackknifing; Two sample problem; Simulation; Survival data; Variance estimation; Influence function; Gross error sensitivity; Sensitivity curve; Misclassification; Statistics; computer and systems science; Statistik; data- och systemvetenskap; Statistics; statistik;

    Abstract : In unbalanced small sample size problems with right censorings, the variance estmators of linear rank statistics, may be biased. This is the case with the commonly applied variance estimators for the generalized Wilcoxon rank test statistics of Gehan and Prentice. READ MORE

  3. 3. Misclassification Probabilities through Edgeworth-type Expansion for the Distribution of the Maximum Likelihood based Discriminant Function

    Author : Emelyne Umunoza Gasana; Martin Singull; Dietrich von Rosen; Xiangfeng Yang; Stepan Mazur; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cumulants of discriminant function; Edgeworth-type expansion; Linear discriminant analysis; Misclassification errors;

    Abstract : This thesis covers misclassification probabilities via an Edgeworth-type expansion of the maximum likelihood based discriminant function. When deriving misclassification errors, first the expectation and variance in the population are assumed to be known where the variance is the same across populations and thereafter we consider the case where those parameters are unknown. 4. 4. An Edgeworth-type Expansion of the Distribution of a Likelihood-based Classifier for Single Time-point Measurements and Growth Curves

    Author : Emelyne Umunoza Gasana; Dietrich von Rosen; Martin Singull; Nestor Parolya; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cumulants of discriminant function; Edgeworth-type expansion; Growth curves classification; Likelihood-based discriminant analysis; Misclassification errors;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on approximating misclassification errors of likelihood-based classifiers considering two cases. The first case assumes the allocation of a new observation into two normal populations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evolving geriatric anthropometrics- an interplay with lifestyle changes, birth cohort effects, and survival implications. : Results from the general population study, “Good Aging in Skåne,” Sweden

    Author : Nivetha Natarajan Gavriilidou; Geriatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anthropometrics; BMI misclassification; measurement; error correction; prediction equation; surrogate; survival; lifestyle; birth cohort; Swedish elderly; assessment;

    Abstract : There is a rising proportion of aging population worldwide. The high vulnerability of older adults to morbidity and mortality introduces an enormous health and economic burden to themselves and the society. The established leading cause of death among older adults is due to chronic and vascular diseases. READ MORE
