  1. 1. Land use GHG emissions and mitigation options, simulated by CoupModel

    Author : Hongxing He; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; GHG; CO2; N2O; forest; drained peatland; clay soil; willow; soil nitrate leaching; modeling; CoupModel; GLUE; Land use; mitigation option; cost benefit analysis;

    Abstract : Climate change and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are one of the major challenges to the humankind of 21st Century. This thesis focuses on understanding, estimating and suggesting mitigation of the GHG emissions (mainly N2O and CO2) from the land use sector, specifically from forest ecosystems on drained peatlands but also from willow production on agricultural clay soil. 2. 2. Sustainable Arsenic Mitigation A Strategy for Scaling-up Safe Water Access : A Strategy for Scaling-up Safe Water Access

    Author : Mohammed Hossain; Prosun Bhattacharya; Marinus Eric Donselaar; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bangladesh; drinking water; arsenic mitigation; local tubewell driller; sediment color tool; low-manganese; Intermediate Deep aquifer; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Mark- och vattenteknik;

    Abstract : In rural Bangladesh, the drinking water supply is mostly dependent upon manually operated hand pumped tubewells, installed by the local community. The presence of natural arsenic (As) in groundwater and its wide scale occurrence has drastically reduced the safe water access across the country and put tens of millions of people under health risk. 3. 3. Nuclear Power as a Climate Change Mitigation Option: a Modelling Approach

    Author : Mariliis Lehtveer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CCS; sensitivity analysis; nuclear weapons proliferation; energy system model; nuclear power; climate change;

    Abstract : Although nuclear power can provide electricity with very low life cycle carbon emissions and thus reduce the cost of climate change mitigation, it also brings along many specific challenges: accident risk, need for radioactive waste management and nuclear weapons proliferation risk. Due to this controversial nature nuclear power, among other energy forms, has been relatively little studied in a climate mitigation context. READ MORE

  4. 4. CO2 mitigation in advanced power cycles

    Author : Jens Wolf; Jinyue Yan; Hongguang Jin; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical engineering; chemical looping combusion; co2 capture; hydrogen production; trigeneration; co-generation; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis encompasses CO2 mitigation using three different processes: i) natural gas-fired combined cycle with chemical looping combustion (CLC), ii) trigeneration of electrical power, hydrogen and district heating with extended CLC, iii) steam-based gasification of biomass integrated in an advanced power cycle. In CLC, a solid oxygen carrier circulates between two fluidised-bed reactors and transports oxygen from the combustion air to the fuel; thus, the fuel is not mixed with air and an inherent CO2 separation occurs. 5. 5. Modeling cost-effective climate change mitigation strategies

    Author : Fredrik Hedenus; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The challenge of reducing anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases calls for a wide variety of analyses to make the mitigation effort efficient and achievable. This thesis explores five different issues related to carbon abatement. READ MORE
