  1. 21. Control of FtsZ-ring formation and cell division in Streptomyces venezuelae

    Author : Beer Sen; Klas Flärdh; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Streptomyces; SepIVA; SepF-like proteins; divisome; Z-ring assembly; Cooperativity; cell division; FtsZ;

    Abstract : Cell division is essential for all life forms. In bacteria, this fundamental process is precisely orchestrated by a protein, FtsZ, the ancestral homolog of eukaroytic tubulin. READ MORE

  2. 22. Mitochondrial plasmids, genetic conflicts and sex-determination in Silene vulgaris

    Author : Helene Andersson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silene vulgaris; sex-determination; mitochondrial plasmids; genetic conflicts; Botanik; Botany;

    Abstract : Plants like all other eukaryotic organisms carry most of their DNA in the nucleus. In addition, plants also have both chloroplasts and mitochondria that contain their own genetic material. The genomes in chloroplasts and mitochondria control certain vital processes, but most often the organelles act under strict nuclear control. READ MORE

  3. 23. Constructing a timetable of autumn senescence in aspen

    Author : Johanna Keskitalo; Stefan Jansson; Howard Thomas; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Populus tremula; autumn senescence; senescence-associated genes; cellular timetable; transcriptional timetable; cDNA microarrays; EST sequencing; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : During the development and lifecycle of multicellular organisms, cells have to die, and this occurs by a process called programmed cell death or PCD, which can be separated from necrosis or accidental cell death (Pennell and Lamb, 1997). Senescence is the terminal phase in the development of an organism, organ, tissue or cell, where nutrients are remobilized from the senescing parts of the plant into other parts, and the cells of the senescing organ or tissue undergo PCD if the process is not reversed in time. 4. 24. Characterisation of the Clp Proteins in Arabidopsis thaliana

    Author : Bo Zheng; Adrian K. Clarke; Vaughan Hurry; Cecilia Sundby-Emanuelsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant physiology; Arabidopsis; molecular chaperone; protein degradation; protease; Clp Hsp100; ClpP; stress response; antisense repression; chloroplast development; Växtfysiologi; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Unlike in the greenhouse, plants need to cope with many environmental stresses under natural conditions. Among these conditions are drought, waterlogging, excessive or too little light, high or low temperatures, UV irradiation, high soil salinity, and nutrient deficiency. READ MORE

  5. 25. Characterization of FtsH proteases in the annual plant Arabidopsis thaliana

    Author : Harald Aigner; Christiane Funk; Sacha Baginsky; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Background FtsH is an ATP-dependent membrane-bound metalloprotease. A. thaliana contains 12 FtsH proteases localized in membranes of chloroplasts and mitochondria where they form homo- or hetero-hexameric complexes. FtsH11 – the main subject of this thesis – is located in the chloroplast envelope. READ MORE
