  1. 16. Protein interactions in signaling networks in Arabidopsis

    Author : Simone Schopper; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Protein networks drive numerous crucial processes in cells. One important component in their coordination is protein-protein interactions. Mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling substrates and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) proteins in Arabidopsis were investigated with respect to their respective interactions. READ MORE

  2. 17. Hyperglycemia and Focal Brain Ischemia : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Author : Nasim Farrokhnia; Andreas Terént; Fredrik Lennmyr; Elisabeth Björk; Henrik Hagberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Internal medicine; cerebrovascular disorders; diabetes mellitus; hyperglycemia; infarction; middle cerebral artery; ischemia; mitogen-activated protein kinases; mortality; rats; reactive oxygen species; reperfusion; signal transduction; therapeutics; Invärtesmedicin; Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : Diabetes is a major risk factor for ischemic stroke and is associated with increased mortality. Additionally, hyperglycemia, a common complication in acute stroke, is associated with poor outcome. READ MORE

  3. 18. Kinase cascades in the regulation of glucose homeostasis

    Author : Tatiana L Steiler; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Skeletal muscle; insulin resistance; T2DM; hyperglycemia; high fat diet; glucose transport; PI3K-; MAPK- and AMPK-signaling pathways; AMPKgamma3;

    Abstract : Therapeutic strategies to treat Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) aim at improving muscle insulin sensitivity by either directly modulating, or bypassing defective insulin signaling. Insulin induces metabolic and gene regulatory responses via PI 3-Kinase (PI3K) and Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways, respectively. READ MORE

  4. 19. Temporal events in neuronal differentiation and cell death : expression and processing of the Alzheimer's amyloid precursor protein family and a protein at the nuclear pore

    Author : Marie Beckman; Kerstin Iverfeldt; David H. Small; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Abstract : The present study had two major objectives: 1) to elucidate the involvement of Alzheimer’s amyloid precursor protein (APP) family in neuronal differentiation, and the effect of the Alzheimer’s disease (AD)-linked mutation APPV642I on signal transduction; 2) to investigate the fate of the nuclear pore complex protein POM121 during apoptosis and to examine the possibility of using green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labelled POM121 as a non-invasive sensor of apoptosis in living (non-fixed) cells.APP is the parent protein of the b-amyloid peptide, which is the major peptide constituent in the “senile plaques” of AD. 5. 20. Altered cell signaling linked to neurodegeneration : Studies on scrapie-infected neuroblastoma cells and activated microglia

    Author : Christina Svensson; Tiit Land; Gianluigi Forloni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prion disease; Inflammation; MAPK; Microglia activation; Neuroblastoma; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Abstract : Prion diseases are neurodegenerative disorders that can affect humans and animals. The underlying event is a conformational change of the normal cellular prion protein (PrPC) into an aberrant isoform termed PrP-scrapie (PrPSc). PrPSc is thought to lead to neurodegeneration and activation of glial cells. READ MORE
