  1. 21. Chemical induction of spindle disturbances and abnormal chromosome numbers in cultured mammalian cells

    Author : Agneta Önfelt; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Early investigations have shown that many chemically different compounds can cause spindle disturbances in eukaryotic cells and that there is an unspecific (physical) mechanism based on the partitioning of the compound into cellular hydrophobic compartments. This suggests that the approach should be quantitative when testing compounds for spindle disturbing activity in vitro; effect/no effect is not the most pertinent question. READ MORE

  2. 22. Interactive antiproliferative mechanisms when 5-fluorouracil is combined with cisplatin or ionizing radiation : an in vivo and in vitro experimental study

    Author : Urban D Nylén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Results from clinical studies and experimental investigations have given evidence of a synergistic effect when 5- fluorouracil (5-FU) has been combined with radiation or cisplatin (CDDP). From earlier experiments performed by the research team we know, that addition of S-FU to CDDP can synergistically increase the antiproliferative effect. READ MORE

  3. 23. Multifaceted roles of the transmembrane nuclear envelope protein, Samp1

    Author : Mohammed Hakim Jaffer Ali; Einar Hallberg; Giovanna Lattanzi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear envelope; transmembrane protein interaction studies; cell differentiation; stem cells; myopathies; neurokemi med molekylär neurobiologi; Neurochemistry with Molecular Neurobiology;

    Abstract : The eukaryotic nuclear envelope (NE), separates the nucleoplasm from cytoplasm and is made up of two concentric lipid membranes, the outer and the inner nuclear membranes (ONM and INM), the nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) and an underlying filamentous nuclear lamina. The INM contains hundreds of unique transmembrane proteins of which only a handful have been characterized. READ MORE

  4. 24. The functional organization of nuclear membrane proteins and development of new technology for studies of cell signaling

    Author : Ricardo A. Figueroa; Einar Hallberg; Yosef Gruenbaum; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The eukaryotic cell is defined by the nucleus, which is delimited by a double membrane structure termed the nuclear envelope (NE). The NE is implicated in a multitude of different processes, for example chromatin organization. READ MORE

  5. 25. Single cell analysis of checkpoints in G1

    Author : Hanna-Stina Martinsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cell cycle; restriction point; cyclin D; pRb; rRNA synthesis; cell growth; attachment;

    Abstract : It is becoming evident that defective cell cycle regulation is an important property of the cancer cell. The restriction point (R), a G1 checkpoint after which cell cycle progression becomes independent of extracellular growth factors, is often aberrant in cancer cells. READ MORE
