  1. 1. Annular Motion : Assessment of Cardiac Function using Echocardiography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Author : Lena Lindström; Otto Smiseth; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This thesis concentrates on the assessment of cardiac function, both systolic and diastolic using variables originating from the longitudinal motion of the heart using both established and novel non-invasive imaging techniques. We developed a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique that creates an M-mode MRI image, analogous to the one used in echocardiography and enables quantitative assessment of cardiac motion. 2. 2. Left Ventricular Dynamics During Exercise in Endurance Athletes

    Author : Milena Sundstedt; Tommy Jonason; Egil Henriksen; Eva Nylander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physiology; athletes; exercise; left ventricular dynamics; stroke volume; mitral annular motion; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Large quantities of data have described left ventricular adaptation to endurance training, but basic concepts on left ventricular performance during exercise remain controversial. In this thesis, we present the results of studies of left ventricular dynamics during exercise in 89 endurance-trained athletes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Annular dynamics of the human heart : novel echocardiographic approaches to assess ventricular function

    Author : Carljohan Carlhäll; Neil B. Ingels Jr.; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The complex myocardial fiber architecture of the left ventricle (LV) enables long-axis motion (annular excursion), short-axis motion and also a small torsional deformation throughout the cardiac cycle. The contribution of the long-axis motion has proven to be important in generating ventricular filling and emptying, and the analysis of annular excursion has become a well established diagnostic tool for the assessment of ventricular function. 4. 4. Ventricular Long Axis Function: Amplitudes and Timings : Echocardiographic Studies in Health and Disease

    Author : Frederick Bukachi; Anders Waldenstrom; Derek Gibson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Echocardiography; Doppler Tissue Imaging; Ageing; coronary disease; left ventricular function; atrial contraction; electromechanical function; coronary angioplasty.; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : Background: The ageing process not only increases the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) but also complicates its diagnosis and treatment. It is therefore important to understand the newer concepts of cardiovascular ageing physiology as well as methods of predicting the outcomes of therapeutic options available for the elderly with severe CAD. 5. 5. Invasive and Non-Invasive Quantification of Cardiac Kinematics

    Author : Katarina Kindberg; Matts Karlsson; Bjørn Skallerud; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : The ability to measure and quantify myocardial motion and deformation provides a useful tool to assist in the diagnosis, prognosis and management of heart disease. Myocardial motion can be measured by means of several different types of data acquisition. READ MORE
