  1. 21. Low Frequency Acoustic Excitation and Laser Sensing of Vibration as a Tool for Remote Characterization of Thin Sheets

    Author : Etienne Mfoumou; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nondestructive testing; remote acoustics; slow dynamics; nonequilibrium dynamics; resonance frequency; material characterization; vibration-based technique; fracture toughness;

    Abstract : There is a need to monitor the existence and effects of damage in structural materials. Bulk components provide a much publicized example, but the need exists in a variety of other structures, such as layered materials used in food packaging industries. READ MORE

  2. 22. Telecommuting's implications on travel and travel patterns

    Author : Jo Skåmedal; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Telecommuting; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Economic Information Systems; Ekonomiska informationssystem;

    Abstract : The subject field is within technology and social change, with focus particularly on telecommuting and the possible changes that arises in the travel patterns as a result of the telecommuting situation. When a person starts working from home once or twice a week instead of commuting back and forth to the main work place, a number of changes in the telecommuters' distribution of travel can and most probably will arise. 3. 23. Data-driven Train Delay Prediction

    Author : Kah Yong Tiong; Trafik och väg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machine learning; Predictive models; Data-driven; Railways; Train Delays;

    Abstract : In Sweden, extensive use and the inherent heterogeneity of train traffic have significantly increased the sensitivity of the train system so that the delay of one train can easily propagate to others. Repeated experiences with train delays can lead passengers to perceive that railway transportation is unreliable. READ MORE

  4. 24. Cortical plasticity in response to median nerve trauma

    Author : Lotta Fornander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Median nerve injuries in adults, repaired with nerve suture, lead to incomplete functional recovery despite improved surgical technique. This results in a reduction in quality of life, poorer working ability and a considerable expense for society. Misrouting of axons at the suture site connects regenerating axons to the wrong distal end organs. READ MORE

  5. 25. Cycle paths’ degradation processes and surface condition assessment

    Author : Martin Larsson; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Anna Niska; Inge Hoff; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; construction design; cycle paths; degradation; distress modes; maintenance; municipalities; survey; cycling comfort; road surface measurements; surface evenness; surface texture; Building Materials; Byggnadsmaterial;

    Abstract : A shift in modal share from car driving to cycling has many benefits, both from individual- and societal perspectives, e.g., better health from an increase in physical activity, lower levels of pollution and congestion. However, there are also some potential problems with such a shift. READ MORE
